OPEN HOUSE: GREAT START TO SCHOOL YEAR

The completion of the Open Houses is a marker that the school year is well underway. I thank all the families who came out to meet teachers and see the spaces their children occupy each day.

Feedback from parents and teachers was very positive about the enthusiasm and care that was shown as we begin to establish the family/school partnership.

I want to take this time to also thank the staff for their preparations for the Open Houses. We will continue to look at the format of the K-6 Open House as we try to determine the best ways to have families meet specialists. Some parents and specialists thought this year there were more families available to meet the specialists.

At the 7-8 Open House we reformatted the evening with more time in the auditorium with the 7-8 team and less time in the classrooms. This received mixed reviews from parents. Some liked the idea of more time meeting the team while others wanted more time in the classroom.

We will review all the information shared and continue to search for the right balance and structure for sharing lots of information in a limited amount of time. Thank you to all who came out and who shared their thoughts about both Open Houses.

Overall, we are off to a great start to the school year!

PROBLEM OF THE WEEK

PROBLEM OF THE WEEK - 1    "HIGH FIVE"

pierceschoolbrookline.org/problem-of-the-week.html

Solution to POW #1:  High Five
Even if the Red Sox aren't off to a great start, Pierce students started off the year with a record!  We had 150 students submit solutions for the first Problem of the Week.  The correct answer was that there would be 36 high fives exchanged amongst the 9 Red Sox players.

Congratulations to all Pierce mathematicians!  We'd like to recognize all 150 students, so stop by the Problem of the Week bulletin board to see the list of names as well as some excellent solutions.
