Pierce Open House for grades K-6 is tonight! This is your opportunity to meet your child's teacher and other parents in your class. Don't miss out! Specialists, including music, art, Spanish, literacy, etc., will be available to meet parents in the cafeteria during the evening.

Electronic Directory is Up and Running and We NEED YOU!

Over 175 students' contact information has already been uploaded to the online directory, but we are now a school of 750!  If you want your contact information to be included in the directory, YOU MUST INPUT YOUR DATA

Please follow the directions on the website at secure.pierceschoolbrookline.org and on the flyer in Thursday's home school folder.  We are looking for 100% participation by Sept. 28th.

New Event: The Harvest Fest!  

   

We are looking for helpers for a new event called HarvestFest. It's a parent social to be held at Pierce on Friday, October 12, 2012. This is a low-key event with small, short-term volunteer needs for decorations, food, and set up.  Book your sitters now!

Artwork For Education ArtworkForEducation

 

Pierce students in grades K, 2, 4, 7 and 8, will be participating in the Artwork for Education program, creating high-quality greeting cards featuring their original artwork.  

 

Parents who want their child to participate should return signed permission slips by September 25th. Siblings and parents are also invited to send in artwork. If you have any questions, please e-mail michal.preminger@gmail.com

PROBLEM OF THE WEEK - 2  "Magic Square"

 

A magic square is a square array of numbers arranged so that the sum of the numbers is the same in each row, column and main diagonal.

 

Complete the 3 x 3 magic square using the odd numbers from 1 to 9. The completed magic square will have the nine numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8, and 9 each once.

 

Show your work using pictures, numbers or symbols.

 

Challenge: "Unmagic" Square

 
Use the same nine numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8, and 9 (each once) to make a square array of numbers that is the "opposite" of a magic square -that is, all rows, columns, and diagonals have different sums.

Parent volunteers are needed to coach practice for the Math Counts competition in February.

Responsible adult needed to drive a child from the Pierce School to the Conservatory Lab School in Brighton each morning. The time commitment would be an hour every morning and include walking her into school. A car seat will be provided and the price is negotiable.
