eFile for Civil Case Initiation is Live
The Clerk of the Superior Court in Maricopa County, in partnership with the Arizona Supreme Court, is proud to announce the launch of eFiling for Civil Case Initiation. The eFiling enhancement is now available through the efiling portals, eFileAZ and AZTurboCourt. While previously, it was possible to eFile documents online in certain Maricopa County Superior Court case types, only post-initiation documents were allowed (e.g. notices, motions, responses, replies). The additional eFile option enables attorneys and pro se litigants to file new civil cases online without the need to visit a facility in-person.
eFiling for Civil Case Initiation is designed to be much easier, more efficient, and may even provide a reduction in processing time. Customers will be able to avoid the added hassle of traveling to a Clerk's Office facility or drop box location, dealing with security screenings and preparing multiple paper documents that are typical of in-person filing for civil case initiation. The system will also generate a civil cover sheet and has the capacity to issue summons for each defendant. eFiling will eventually be expanding to include family court case initiation, probate guardianships and juvenile dependency, with family court case initiation expected to “go live” later this year.
The Clerk's Office advises that attorneys please read and be aware of Administrative Order 2020-134, which sets forth the parameters for eFiling for Civil Case Initiation. Per the Supreme Court, eFiling for Civil Case Initiation will become mandatory for attorneys beginning October 1, 2020.
