Bright Side Stories

who we serve...

who we are...

Linda (not her real name) has been enrolled in our PALS (Portable Assisted Living Services) program for about two years.

The 82-year-old resident of Westwood House is pictured above with Program Administrator Beth Buckley and Assistant Administrator Jesenia Slavkoski, whom Linda calls her "angels"

Her story shows how residents of senior housing benefit from the flexible care model PALS offers.

Initially, Linda enrolled in PALS to have some help a couple of times a week, as well as check-ins with a nurse to monitor her diabetes and blood pressure. But after suffering a fall and having to spend 4 months in a nursing home for rehab, Linda was able to return to her apartment after her family arranged for PALS to increase her services to 7 days a week. Staff checks in on her multiple times a day, helping with housekeeping, personal care and other tasks - thus ensuring she can remain living in an independent setting rather than a nursing home.

Linda's take on PALS:

"This program is helping me a lot. I'm getting stronger and they've helped me get my confidence back after my fall. I am doing so much better now."

A FACT about IMPACT

The cost of caring for a Medicaid recipient through our PALS program is $70,000 less each year than those same services would cost in a nursing home.
