Our Victory in Jesus
By Mike Riley
| |
The inspired apostle Paul told the brethren at Rome that we are “more than conquerors” (Romans 8:37-NKJV), and that we will always be “led in triumph” in the Lord (2 Corinthians 2:14-NKJV).
For the Christian, this means that although we have to go through the troubles and trials of this life, all of these fade into obscurity as we think of the prospects of heaven and the joy that awaits us.
However, just simply dreaming about the goal of attaining heaven’s portals, will not cause us to arrive at that eternal destination. Victory only comes to those who keep “pressing toward” those higher spiritual goals that God has given us (Philippians 3:13-14-KJV; cf. 2 Timothy 4:7-8-NKJV).
Realizing this fact, Paul wrote:
“For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory” (Colossians 3:3-4-NKJV).
As loyal followers of Christ, we must be willing to live for Jesus through times of tribulation as well as times of loneliness (Acts 14:22-NKJV; John 16:32-NKJV).
Friends and even family may forsake us, but Jesus never will (Genesis 28:15; Matthew 28:20; Hebrews 13:5; cf. 2 Timothy 4:16-18). We must be willing to pay whatever price is required so that victory will be ours (Revelation 2:10-NKJV).
The prophet Isaiah prophesied of the Christ and the victory He would give us over fear and defeat when he stated:
“Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, A tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; Whoever believes will not act hastily” (Isaiah 28:16-NKJV).
Let us rejoice in the fact that glorious victory is a certainty to faithful followers of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (John 16:33; Romans 8:28-39; 1 Corinthians 15:55-57; 1 John 4:4; 1 John 5:4).
I heard and old, old story,
How a Savior came from glory,
How He gave His life on Calvary
To save a wretch like me;
I heard about His groaning,
Of His precious blood’s atoning,
Then I repented of my sins
And won the victory.
O victory in Jesus;
My Savior forever,
He sought me and bought me with His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him,
And all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory, beneath the cleansing flood. —E.M. Bartlett
