As we learned from last week’s bulletin, the consequences of sin are dreadful and deadly to the human soul. And if we continue to live with unconfessed sins, we put ourselves in a dangerous state of being separated from God. Nobody in their right mind should want that for themselves.
The scriptures warn us that “If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” (1 John 1: 8)
Even though the Christian does not go around “intentionally” sinning, he/she will sin. As long as we are in our fleshly bodies (be it through our thoughts, our words or our actions) we are bound to commit sin. It is inevitable, because of the sinful nature that exists within our fleshy mortal bodies.
The difference between the saved (the born again Christian) and the unsaved is that the saved are conscientiously trying not to habitually, deliberately and easily commit sin. And when they do sin, they have an “Advocate” and His name is Jesus.
Thank God for Jesus! “And if anyone sins, we have an an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteousness; and He is the propitiation first our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.” (1 John 2: 1 -2)
Thank God for Jesus! For it is through Jesus and Jesus only that our sins can be forgiven and forgotten! For it is through Jesus that we are saved. For it is through Jesus that we can receive eternal life if we remain faithful until the end. And it is through Jesus that we get to know and experience what true love is!
Thank God for Jesus and for the forgiveness of our sins!
