The Christian's First Love
When people first become Christians, they usually are very excited about being saved. They want to go out and teach the whole world. They are burning with zeal. They love the Lord and want to share Him with everyone (cf. Acts 9:17-22).

A true disciple has given himself to the Lord, to be taught and used in His service (Luke 14:33; Gal. 2:20; Romans 12:1-2). Such a one will never grow weary in well doing (Gal. 6:9). He will remain fervent in spirit in serving Christ (Romans 12:11).

In the first century, the Christians at Ephesus somehow had lost their first love (putting Christ first in all their considerations and setting their chief concerns on Him and on spiritual things – Colossians 3:1-2). They taught the truth (Revelation 2:2) and would not tolerate false teachers. They patiently persevered and did not grow weary (Revelation 2:3). They labored in His cause, yet they had lost their first love (Revelation 2:4).

We see that people can teach the truth and perform the acts of worship outwardly in a correct way, but still not do these things with the proper attitude of heart.

Every act of obedient service to the Lord must be done out of a genuine love for Him (1 Corinthians 13:1-3) or it is useless. If we teach or do anything in service to Him only as a sense of duty and not because we truly love Him, it will not be acceptable to Him. This is truly an important lesson for Christians to learn.

Another lesson we must learn is that we must serve the Lord by “abiding” in His teaching: “If you abide in my word, you are my disciples indeed” (John 8:31).

Finally, let us fully understand that “Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son” (2 John 9-10).

COVID Safety Protocols to Continue

As we continue to meet at the church building for worship on Sunday mornings at 11:00 a.m., we will continue the mask, social distance and temperature scan requirements previously put in place for attendance at in-person worship and classes until further notice. We will also continue to require advance sign up to attend in-person services to facilitate the notification process in the event of possible COVID exposure.
We continue to require that all attendees at our in-person worship services and classes comply with the following:

  • sign up to attend in advance to facilitate seating and contact tracing (link below);
  • wear masks (covering nose and mouth, NO VENTED MASKS);
  • maintain social distance (6ft); and
  • submit to temperature scans (fever free) to enter the building.
We are aware that not all members have been vaccinated and this requires that we continue the same safety protocols to keep ALL members safe – vaccinated and unvaccinated. Thank you for your continued cooperation.

We will continue to livestream the worship service on Sunday mornings at 11:00 a.m. on our YouTube channel for those who are unable to attend in person. See below for link to our YouTube channel.

If you will be attending worship in person, please arrive at the building by 10:30 a.m. All attendees must be seated in the auditorium by 10:45 a.m. so that the livestream can begin promptly at 11:00.

Please spread the word to those who do not have internet access to complete the form online that they can contact Sis. Craigwell at 617-980-7830 or Sis. Gallington at 617-922-5987. By signing up to attend worship in person, you are agreeing to follow all COVID protocols that have been put in place for the safety of all. All attendees will have their temperatures scanned (touchless) upon entry into the building. Facemasks covering the nose and mouth must be worn by all attendees while on church property, both inside and outside. Vented masks are not allowed. All attendees must sanitize hands before entering the auditorium. We ask that all attendees bring their communion with them, but we will have supplies on hand if you forget.

To assist us with conducting the service in a decent, orderly and safe manner, we ask that you please not come to the building if you have not been added to the list of attendees. If you have been added to the list and find that you cannot attend, please let Sis. Craigwell or Sis. Gallington know right away so that your spot can be given to someone who can attend. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and patience.
