Counseling Corner
Hello Families and Discipuli!

With midwinter recess approaching, we wanted to re-share these previous tips for getting through the dark, cold days of winter!

While we've been lucky so far to have a pretty mild winter (knock on wood!), it's sometimes hard to keep a positive attitude during the cold months of January and February when the days are short and the cold air keeps us from feeling our best!

Here are a few tips to help you get through winter with ease:

1. Look on the bright side - literally!  Sunlight is limited in the winter, so whenever you have the chance, soak in the sun and get it while you can!  Open your shades at home to let light in and take a moment each day to take in some sun, even if the air is cold!
2. Eat right!  When it's cold, people often turn to comfort foods to warm them, but instead try grabbing fruits and veggies to increase your vitamin intake!  You'll have more energy and feel more refreshed!
3. Make plans to see friends and enjoy the winter weather! Winter provides lots of opportunities for activities that can be fun even in the cold, so make plans to have some winter fun with friends to go ice skating or meet for coffee and hot chocolate to warm up.  Staying active and connected with people is one of the best ways to keep your spirits up even in the coldest of days!
4. Do something to help others!  Winter is a hard time for many New Yorkers, so get out and do some volunteering to help others who might really be struggling during the cold months.  Checking with local soup kitchens to help with meal service or contacting your area hospital to see if they need volunteers is a great way to keep yourself active and help someone who may really need it.

Stay tuned for more tips from the Counseling Corner!

Sincerely,

Ms. Teslik and Ms. McCaughey
