Congratulations to Our Retirees
Mrs. Felicia Richardson
Congratulations to to Mrs. Richardson, who is retiring after 25 years in education, all of which have been in Monroe County. She became interested in education when her son was in kindergarten. "I became a volunteer parent and took an interest in my child's education and other aspects of the system." She said her most memorable moment in education was when she was invited to speak to an audience of community leaders at Clayton State University as part of the statewide "Knowledge is Power Tour." The tour, sponsored by the Intellectual Capital Partnership Program, was designed to provide information to community leaders about the university system's role in economic development. "I also participated in a week long study of water related issues, traveling down the Flint water shed from Thomaston, Georgia to the Gulf of Mexico. Along the way we met with legislators, industry representatives, farmers, and others who were concerned about Georgia's water supply." Her most rewarding experience has been watching students grow, not only in education but in maturity, self-respect, and the ability to respect others. "I am so proud of my former students who are now my co-workers." Her most embarrassing moments as an educator have been her "yearbook pictures. I do not like my yearbook pictures." What will she miss most?
"I will miss my science friends of old:
Mr. Speir, Mrs. Sumner, and Mrs. Morrow, my sister Rosalyn Sparks, Mrs. Bond, Ms. Hochuli, Ms. Walker, the Freshman Campus cafeteria ladies, the days that Mrs. Clark and I administered Milestones together and prayer time with Mrs. Willie May Johnson, Nurse Lyons, and Mrs. Morrow. I will also missed my Bulldog co-workers because we shared conversations and laughter. Peace and blessings to all of you." She said she will not miss her duties. She looks forward to spending as much time as possible with her husband, children, and grandchildren, creating new recipes, traveling, reading, and taking piano lessons. Her advice for a new educator: "Treat others the way you want to be treated. Your tests will come not in your ability to teach but rather in your ability to be a true believer of God. Always start each day dressed in the whole armor, and live and walk in His Spirit."

Mrs. Willie Mae Johnson
Congratulations to Mrs. Johnson who has worked in education for 29 years, 25 of which have been in Monroe County. She wanted to work in education so she would have the same schedule as her children. Her most memorable moment in education was "seeing all four of her children walk across Dan Pitts stadium at Mitchell Field." The most rewarding part of her experience has been helping the students with all of their different needs. Her most embarrassing moment was when she opened the door to an unlocked lady restroom to find a male teacher in there. She said she will miss her co-workers and helping students in need. She will not miss having to get up so early in the morning. In

retirement, she looks forward to traveling and helping out with her grandkids. What advice would she share with new educators? "Love what you do."

2021 Georgia Milestones score reports will be mailed to parents in June when they are received by the district. As a reminder, State School Superintendent Richard Woods issued the following statement on February 24, 2021:
The State Board of Education approved my recommendation to reduce the weight of Georgia Milestones EOCs to 0.01% of students' final grades, and I directed school districts with flexibility contracts to use input from teachers and parents, placement committees, class performance, and formative tools instead of Georgia Milestones to make student promotion/retention decisions.
