Math Students Think Outside the Classroom
All of Ms. Ashleigh Hightower's math classes have been busy thinking outside
of the box...and the classroom! Her geometry classes have worked
on finding measurements of angles inside of circles in the hallways,
as well as deriving surface area using oranges!

Escape Room Activity

Ms. Hightower's Foundations of Algebra class used their knowledge
of solving  variables and equations
to "escape" from their digital escape rooms  in the Freshman Campus Media Center, using BreakoutEDU, and the help of Mrs. Bernard.

Science Class Studies DNA
Mrs. McIntosh's class spent last week exploring DNA with fruit and playdough.
They used a simple lab procedure to extract the DNA from a common banana.  Check out the results they had in their test tubes.  After understanding the structure of DNA, they used playdough to model how it makes copies of itself
so that we can continue to grow and repair cells.  They did such a great job!
Scavenger Hunt for Geometry Students
Last week was a busy one in our Geometry classes as Mr. Bernard, Ms. McKallip, and Ms. Johnston led their students on an angle and arc scavenger hunt
in the gym lobby Monday to review for a summative assessment.
On Friday, Mr. Bernard's class explored the surface area and volume of a sphere
by experimenting with oranges and how their peels relate to those formulas.
Healthcare Students Study the Muscular System
Ms. Carter's Essentials of Healthcare class dissected chicken wings last week while studying the muscular system. Students enjoyed being able to see the different layers of muscle, skin, and bones and how they function to work together.

Thespian Troup 5158 News

Congratulations to the four members of our MPHS Thespian Troupe 5158 who auditioned for a chance to perform in the All State Theatre production at the 2020 Georgia Thespian Conference in Columbus, Georgia in February.  Abby Hodges, Emily Joseph, Jordan Shepherd and Emmy Tane went through a rigorous dance and vocal audition process and were chosen out of 250 students from all over the state.  Schools may only send four representatives to audition, and it is very rare for all four candidates to be chosen!  We are very proud of their accomplishments and look forward to seeing them shine onstage in February!
