Congratulations Mrs. Dews,
August Teacher of the Month!
This Teacher of the Month is a homegrown MP Bulldog! Jennifer Dews graduated here in 1999 and went on to further her education at 3 different colleges (Macon State, Wesleyan, and Walden University) to obtain, finally, her Masters degree in Education. Her teaching story is much different than most teachers. Her first 10 years of teaching (formerly known as Mrs. Jenkins) were in our county's Elementary schools T.G. Scott and K.B. Sutton. She became well known for her hands-on teaching style, such as dissecting with her 5th graders, reenacting wars, and even leading mock school protests in Social Studies. Mrs. Dews desired to spread her wings a little more and became certified to teach High school Science, adding Gifted Endorsement to her certification as well.  Recently she has taught 9th and 10th Honors and Regular Ed Biology and is currently educating juniors and seniors in Anatomy and Physiology. Her goal as an educator is "to make learning fun and memorable, and influence them in a way they won't forget."
Being a fan of the outdoors, Mrs. Dews' favorite sport is softball, which she played for many years here in Monroe county. She has recently enrolled her youngest of 5, to play "Weeball" and is excited about being her daughter's assistant coach. Other ways she's impacted youth is through coaching jump rope competitions and leading children's church/Christmas plays. Her son A.J. Jenkins is currently a Junior at MP and her oldest daughter, Haley Jenkins, graduated Mary Persons a few years ago. Future goals include plans to move to North Georgia or "somewhere in the mountains where it is serene and away from the hustle and bustle of the city."

Monroe County Schools Board of Education, administration,
and staff believe continuity of instruction in the event of the loss of
an instructional day, due to weather or other circumstances, is a critical component to our students' success. Therefore, our schools will provide the opportunity for students to continue to engage in learning on days when
school is called off. Students will engage in Alternative Learning Days through reading traditional books, traditional "at home" paper-based assignments, and through use of personal devices, Google Classroom, email, and other electronic and digital media to ensure uninterrupted instruction. Please click on the links below for more information on alternative learning days.
Students may use the Sora app or the Overdrive app,
or they may read through a computer browser.
Please see Mrs. English or Mrs. Bernard for login credentials and for assistance.
