McKallip Named STAR Student
Congratulations to Rilyn McKallip who was named STAR student 
for the Class of 2019. She has chosen Mrs. Elizabeth Barber as her  
STAR teacher.  The Forsyth/Monroe County Chamber of    Commerce sponsors  the STAR program.
Choosing the Best

Mr. Kelly Canady recently spoke with 11th grade students as part 
of the  Choosing the Best program.  He discussed  pornography, human sex trafficking,  the adolescent brain development, and addiction.
Biology Students Study Osmosis
Mrs. McIntosh's biology students explored the process of osmosis by observing  how an egg is affected when placed in different solutions over a period  of 24 hours each.  Students observed the effects of vinegar, corn syrup,  and colored tap water and made their observations.
Biology Students Study Enzymes

Mrs. Dews' biology students learned how difficult it is for enzymes  to function properly if they've been denatured or experience competitive inhibition.

Academic Team News

The MP Academic Team traveled to Eastside HS on Saturday, January 26, to compete at the EAST III tournament. Varsity went 1-4 and JV went 2-3 in preliminary matches, which earned them a playoff spot. However, they did lose in the quarterfinals in a tightly contested match. Members of Varsity that competed include Henri Marlow, Katherine Samuelson, Calvin Brown, and Bailey Storey. Members of JV that competed were Caleb Johnson, Donovan Skinner, Maci Joiner, and Baxter Berlin. Our next tournament will be at Middle Georgia State University on Friday, March 1. 
Best Buddies News

Best Buddies will be hosting a carnival on March 2nd at The Fine Arts Center from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. We are asking for vendors to participate.

March 22-24 in Atlanta. There are 3 fundraisers to take advantage of assisting with the registration and hotel fees. Deadline to sign-up and pay registration fee February 12th.

FBLA members will be selling Crush Orange drinks for $1 for students to send their "crush" Feb 4-12.

FBLA is selling ice cream sandwiches for $1.00 after school on  Thursdays in Mrs. Myers room 226.
FFA News

Mary Persons High School FFA members attended the Georgia Green Industry Association Conference Friday January 26th at the Gwinnett Conference Center.  While attending the conference students were able to visit industry booths and make professional connections.  In addition, our students were able to attend a presentation on the opportunities for careers in the Agricultural and Horticulture Industries.  

In addition to attending the conference our students were able to take the Jr. Plant Professional Certification Exam.  The Exam consisted of two parts, plant identification and a written test consisting questions related to plant science and the Horticulture industry.  We are proud to have four students from Mary Persons FFA become certified:  These students are Bria Brindle, Aleah Hayman, Matthew Marshall, and Deyana Stokes.  Also, two other Mary Persons FFA members passed the Plant Identification portion of the certification;  Shelbye Thompson and Tyler Faulk.

Volleyball News

Attention Girls interested in Volleyball

Volleyball open gym/ conditioning  will be Monday & Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5:10.  It will start (depending on basketball) March 11, 2019 in MPHS gym util April. 

A Mini Camp will take place April 15th-April 17th starting at 3:45 and go til 5.  Volleyball tryouts will be April 22, 24, 25 and 26th  3:30-5:30.
