Somehow our shortest month of the year is one of our busiest! The Book Fair is off to an amazing start - thank you to the planning team and to everyone who has volunteered their time to restock the shelves, help with sales, help kids make their decisions, delivered classroom purchases to the teachers, etc. It really does take a village and ours came out this week! We loved seeing everyone last night at the Family Shopping and Bingo night!

Read on for more of the exciting stuff we have left this month, both for the students and for the parents!

Hopefully, everyone can enjoy some downtime over February break. We're gearing up for a busy Spring, so settle in Bulldogs, the best is yet to come!

Coming up next...

Author's Week!

Next week, we'll welcome some seriously awesome authors to Sanborn to teach our students about all the ways a story can come to life. We'll cap off the week with our Community Read Aloud day, where several members from our local community will read to our students. This annual event is a wonderful way to bring members of the Andover community into the schools to promote both the joy of reading and a broader connection to the town - and so that our children can be inspired by their very own community leaders.

We're Bringing Enrichment to our Students

Thanks to all of your generous donations throughout the year, the PTO is able to fund all of Sanborn's enrichment activities. In addition to Author's Week (see above), here a few exciting activities to keep an eye out for:

  • Discovery Museums Force in Motion - Kindergarten, February 29th

What makes an object move? Can we control the movement? Does the strength of a push or pull have an effect? How about the direction of the push or pull? What happens when objects move past each other or collide? Students explore concepts of force and motion while interacting with a variety of toys, balls, and vehicles.

  • McAuliffe-Shepard Traveling Planetarium - Grade 5, March 7th

In our portable, inflatable planetarium, we offer a variety of shows for groups of students. In this new planetarium show you will learn how eclipses happen, how to safely view one, and where the next two eclipses will take place. You will learn the history of eclipse watchers and how to observe safely.

  • Pumpernickel Puppets - Kindergarten, March 21st

Pumpernickel Puppets shows are presented with a cast of colorful puppet characters, audience participation, live voices and sound effects and fast paced scripts that not only entertain, but stimulate children's imagination and creativity. A demonstration period follows every performance giving the audience some insight into what happens behind the scenes.

  • Danielle Noyes, Meteorologist - Grade 2, March (exact date TBD)

Danielle is a meteorologist who travels to schools and covers topics including the difference between weather & climate, types & formation of precipitation, tornadoes, hurricanes, and storm safety.

  • Seacoast Science Center - Grade 5, March/April (exact date TBD)
