CXC prepares for historic gathering of Caribbean education stakeholders in Jamaica

More than 300 education leaders, policymakers, and practitioners from across the Caribbean – including regional ministers of education – are set to converge in Jamaica next week to discuss the future of teaching, learning, and assessment in the digital age. The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC ) in partnership with Jamaica’s Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information, will host a Regional Education Conference and Ministerial Forum from March 16 to 19 at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in Kingston.

Gov’t to finalise STEAM education policy

The Government is moving to finalise and seek approval for a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) Education Policy, while simultaneously developing an information and communications technology (ICT) strategy and requirement plan. The works will be done under Phase II of the Education System Transformation Programme, which has been allocated approximately $857 million in the 2026/27 Estimates of Expenditure, now before the House of Representatives.

Two-day conference on Open & Distance Learning inaugurated at JU

A two-day International Conference on the theme “Reimagining Open, Distance, Online Blended and Self-directed Learning: Innovations, Equity, and Impact in the Digital Era” was inaugurated at the University of Jammu (JU). The conference is being organized by the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), University of Jammu, as part of its Golden Jubilee celebrations at the Brigadier Rajinder Singh Auditorium. Eminent academicians, researchers and scholars from India and abroad are participating in the conference.

Open universities to integrate with Academic Bank of Credits, implement credit framework under new national framework

The fifth All India Public Open University Vice Chancellors’ Round Table Conference hosted by the Sreenarayanaguru Open University (SGOU), which concluded here on Wednesday, resolved to implement a harmonised model credit framework among open universities. The proposed framework will standardise credit definitions, workload norms, equivalence mapping protocols and permissible transfer limits across institutions.

NAAC partners with COL to develop quality assurance handbook for online education

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has partnered with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) for a collaborative project to develop a handbook on quality assurance for designing and delivering online programmes through open and dual-mode universities. As part of the initiative, NAAC collaborated with the Special Project Unit of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) to organise a national-level consultative workshop on opportunities and challenges for quality assurance in online education.

Taking the gender justice agenda forward: Diverse paths for a common goal

Gender justice is a complex issue that requires both large structural reforms and micro-level action. While there has been significant progress and long-standing international commitments to gender equality, global inequalities continue to persist. As UN Women points out, no country has eliminated legal gaps or achieved full equality between men and women. Even in 2026, women have only 64 per cent of the legal rights men hold worldwide, with many laws restricting women’s rights in areas such as education, work, financial independence, family life, and beyond.
