Commonwealth and CDRI partner to advance disaster and climate-resilient infrastructure

The Commonwealth Secretariat and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) ahead of London Climate Action Week to enhance cooperation on climate- and disaster-resilient infrastructure across Commonwealth member countries. The MoU was signed by Amb. Tanmaya Lal, Commonwealth Deputy Secretary-General (Programmes) and Mr. Amit Prothi, Director-General of CDRI, at Marlborough, the Commonwealth Headquarters in London.

AI4EAC Innovation Challenge: East African students build the AI that could reshape African hiring

EduNeX digital learning system now compulsory for all schools

All schools across the country must immediately implement the new artificial intelligence-powered digital learning management system called EduNeX, Acting Education Minister Hon. Kinoka Feo, MP, announced recently. In a ministerial policy statement issued under Section 27 of the Education Act 1983, Feo said the digital reform is necessary to address significant challenges in delivering equitable 

education due to PNG's rugged geography, dispersed population, and limited digital infrastructure.

UNESCO and Unicode strengthen collaboration for Indigenous languages online

UNESCO and Unicode are collaborating to highlight their shared commitment to ensuring that digitally disadvantaged communities, and especially Indigenous Peoples, can access digital environments and technologies to create, communicate, learn, and participate online in their own languages. The collaboration reflects the multistakeholder spirit of the Global Action Plan of IDIL2022-2032, which recognises the growing importance of private organisations and civil society in advancing language preservation and revitalisation efforts worldwide.

New study recommends improvements in language, science teaching

The National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA) has released the 2025 Learning Achievement in Rwandan Schools report, revealing improvements in learner performance alongside persistent gaps in foundational literacy and language proficiency. Conducted in May 2025, the nationwide assessment covered 22,950 learners from 592 schools across the country. Learners were assessed in Kinyarwanda and English proficiency, Mathematics and Science to provide data for education planning and policy development.

Dominican teachers complete ACT in mathematics cohort 2 regional training programme

Thirty educators from secondary schools across Dominica have successfully completed a regional professional development programme aimed at strengthening mathematics instruction and enhancing the use of technology in the classroom. According to a press release from the Ministry of Education, Human Resource Planning, Vocational Training and National Excellence, Dominica’s participation in the Advancing Caribbean Teachers (ACT) in Mathematics Cohort 2 initiative has concluded.

Digital transformation of education accelerates with launch e-Thaksalawa

The Government took a major step towards realising its vision of a digitally empowered education system with the launch of the Human Resources Module of the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS HRM – Phase 1) and the ‘e-Thaksalawa’ Learning Management System (LMS) Pilot Project at Temple Trees on Saturday (6). 168 girls empowered with AI skills through Guyanese Girls Code Programme

Working paper: Building skills for out-of-school adolescents in Bangladesh

Bangladesh has expanded access to basic education, yet many adolescents still leave school early, with one in five youth aged 15-29 not in education, employment, or training. Girls are disproportionately affected, and opportunities for re‑engagement remain limited. The Skills-Focused Literacy for Out-of-School Adolescents (SKILFO) programme, implemented in Cox’s Bazar by the Bureau of Non-Formal Education with UNICEF support, provided 6,825 adolescents (60% female) with a second-chance pathway.

23 young leaders selected for 2026 Commonwealth Youth Forum International Taskforce

Twenty-three young people have been selected to serve on an international taskforce that will lead the planning and delivery of the 2026 Commonwealth Youth Forum (CYF) at the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Antigua and Barbuda. The taskforce will work with the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Commonwealth Youth Council (CYC) and the Government of Antigua and Barbuda to support the successful delivery of the CYF. This includes helping shape the forum programme, policy recommendations and logistical arrangements.
