More than 40 young leaders from across the Commonwealth gathered in London for a special edition of the Commonwealth Leadership Series last week to explore what leadership should look like in a rapidly changing world. The event, hosted by the Commonwealth Youth Council on 24 July 2026, in partnership with the John A. Kufuor Foundation, at the Commonwealth Secretariat’s headquarters in London, also brought together leaders from different generations to promote effective leadership as a catalyst for good governance and socio-economic development.

The Government of Malawi has validated its Artificial Intelligence (AI) Readiness Assessment Report, marking a key milestone in the country’s efforts to build a safe, ethical and effective AI ecosystem. The validation workshop for the Artificial Intelligence Readiness Assessment Methodology (RAM), organised by the Ministry of Education with support from UNESCO‘s Regional Office for Southern Africa (UNESCO-ROSA), brought together government officials, development partners, academia and other stakeholders in Lilongwe to review the report’s findings.

The government has begun implementing Namibia’s National Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) Policy, bringing together education institutions, employers and state agencies to close the long-standing gap between classroom learning and workplace skills as part of efforts to improve graduate employability. The implementation phase was launched on Tuesday during the two-day national working session in Okahandja, where officials from government, higher education institutions, technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions, regulators and industry are meeting to agree on coordination mechanisms, implementation priorities and monitoring systems for the 2026/27 financial year.

CXC® introduces reforms to
School-Based Assessment framework

The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC®) has announced major reforms to its School-Based Assessment (SBA) framework, aimed at strengthening assessment integrity across Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination® (CAPE®) and Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate® (CSEC®) examinations, in response to the rapid rise of Generative AI and other technological innovations. CXC® Registrar and CEO, Dr Wayne Wesley has pointed out that the move is not intended to resist the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence in the learning process, but rather to safeguard the integrity of the assessment process as learners and the regional education system continues to adjust to the scale of the impact of AI on Caribbean education.
