Bridgeport Families,

As always, thank you for trusting us to educate your child. We know you have options for your child’s academic journey and we are honored that you chose Bridgeport ISD! It has been a busy few months for our district as we continue to see academic growth and gains in the classroom. We are so proud of our students and teachers for this success!

Like many districts, we spent much of January fighting an increase in sickness and absences amongst our staff and students alike. We hope that with the warmer temperatures these last few weeks, you and your families have seen a decrease in sickness as well. Later in this newsletter, you will see some ways that we as a district are working to combat illness and do everything we can to keep our students and staff healthy and in the classroom. Thank you for partnering with us in this effort!

As a reminder, tomorrow, Feb. 16, is an unused Bad Weather Day with no school for students or staff.

Also, all Bridgeport ISD campuses and offices will be closed on Monday, Feb. 19, in observance of Presidents Day. We hope you enjoy this long weekend with friends and family!

Thank you for being a part of the Bridgeport ISD family. We are honored to serve our families and provide the best possible education for our students!

Sincerely,

Amy Ellis, Ed.D.

Superintendent

Trustees Call $26M May Bond Election

The Bridgeport ISD Board of Trustees voted Feb. 15 to call a bond election for Saturday, May 4. The $26 million single-proposition bond proposal will not require a tax rate increase and is significantly smaller than the bond package recommended by a citizens’ facility planning committee.

The May bond is intended to address critical facility updates and safety and security projects on all BISD campuses. The package includes 12 school buses to replace a portion of the district's aging bus fleet and land for future development. Proposed maintenance projects include HVAC, roof repair, updated paint and flooring at all five campuses. Click here to read more.

Bridgeport ISD Continues to Work to Prevent the Spread of Illness

You have entrusted your children to our care and that is a responsibility we take seriously. We are committed to being proactive in addressing health concerns in the most effective ways possible.

  • Although we regularly use an electrostatic spray to sanitize classrooms, we now intentionally spray all classrooms every Friday before students arrive back on Monday.
  • We spray our school buses as well! Given the last few weeks of sickness in our district, we have sprayed not only our classrooms, but also our school buses, and will continue this practice throughout the rest of the school year.
  • In specific cases these last few weeks, when our nurses notice increased illnesses from a particular classroom in the building, they notify our custodial staff who then spray the classroom when the class is at recess/lunch/specials to disinfect the area and prevent further spread of illness.
  • Our custodial staff actively disinfect common areas that students use throughout the day to ensure clean touch surfaces throughout the school.
  • To ensure we are creating an optimal learning environment, it starts with the air we breathe. We have air purification systems in each classroom to reduce certain viruses and pathogens up to 99.99 percent. The air purification system is used by world-renowned medical institutions such as the Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic.
