Last week was Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week! Thank you to our entire staff for all that they constantly do to support our students and families. We are grateful for an incredible group of team members that have such big hearts to serve our students and families!

Our district leadership team provided lunches and new Bridgeport lunch bags for our staff members. We enjoyed celebrating our team for the incredible work that they do in our district each day!

We have officially entered the final week of school! On behalf of the district, we appreciate your partnership in your child’s education this school year. We have enjoyed attending many end of year celebrations with you! It is definitely bittersweet to say goodbye to our graduating Class of 2024, but we wish them the best on their next educational adventure!

Graduation Information

Congratulations to the Class of 2024! We look forward to celebrating our graduates and this exciting milestone with their families. The Bridgeport High School commencement is scheduled for Wednesday, May 29 at 5 p.m., at the UNT Coliseum. The address for the UNT Coliseum is 601 North Texas Boulevard, Denton, TX 76201. Door to the coliseum will open at 4 p.m. for students and guests. All guests can enter the coliseum through Gates A, D and G starting at 4 p.m. UNT has a no seat saving policy. 

Do you, your family, or friends need a ride to graduation? Bridgeport ISD will provide a bus to take you and your guests to Denton. To reserve a spot on the bus, please call the BISD Transportation Department at 940-683-5877 by noon on Tuesday, May 28.

Pre-K and Kindergarten Round Up on July 29!

Come learn about Bridgeport ISD Pre-K and Kindergarten and register your student for the 2024-25 school year! Attend our second registration event to be hosted at Bridgeport Elementary School from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, July 29. Please bring the following: child's birth certificate and social security card, proof of address, parent ID and immunization records.

Principal Opening

BISD is searching for the next Principal of Bridgeport High School following the resignation of Andrew Hohman last week. Mr. Hohman accepted a principal’s position closer to home, but will be finishing out the rest of this school year at BHS where he has served as principal for the past two years. Prior to that, Mr. Hohman was Principal of BISD’s Alternative Learning Center.

BHS parents and staff were invited to participate in a survey to share feedback on the characteristics they seek in a high school principal. School officials are currently interviewing candidates and hope to name a new hire soon.

Last Day of School Early Release Times

Next Thursday, May 23, is the last day of school, and all of our campuses will be released early. Make sure you are aware of the time your student's campus will be dismissed:

• Bridgeport Elementary: 12:05 p.m.
• Bridgeport Intermediate: 11:55 a.m.
• Bridgeport Middle: 12:20 p.m.
• Bridgeport High: 12:30 p.m.
• Alternative Learning Center: 12:15 p.m.

Aaron Cupp Named Bridgeport ISD’s Athletic Director/Head Football Coach

Aaron Cupp has been approved as the next Athletic Director/Head Football Coach for Bridgeport Independent School District. Cupp was chosen from a field of 41 applicants and approved 7-0 by the BISD School Board during a special meeting in April. We’re proud to welcome Coach Cupp and his family to Bridgeport!

Bridgeport ISD Bond Election Rejected By Voters

Voters in Bridgeport ISD rejected the $26 million bond proposal on Saturday, May 4, marking the third time in the past year that proposals to improve safety/security and facilities did not pass. In fact, the last time BISD voters approved a bond election for school improvements was 15 years ago in 2009.

A total of 1,348 ballots were cast in the May 4 election. There were 719 total votes against the proposition, which represented 53% of the total votes cast, and 629 for the proposition or 47% - a difference of just 90 votes. Early voting was a little closer with 470 or 52% of the voters against the proposed bond package and 436 or 48% for the proposal.
