Northside Institutions Neighborhood Alliance, Inc. (NINA)

Since 2004, Northside Institutions Neighborhood Alliance, Inc. (NINA) has been working to revitalize Hartford’s Asylum Hill neighborhood, restoring blighted historic houses and creating affordable homeownership opportunities for low- to moderate-income families. The nonprofit organization represents a collaboration of some of the largest institutions in the city, including AetnaThe Hartford, Trinity Health of New England, and Webster Bank.

Karen T. Taylor, Director of Equity & Opportunity for the City of Hartford enjoyed the experience of working with NINA when she was house hunting. She chose the Asylum Hill neighborhood because of its "proximity, people, parks, and price," she says. “I’ve lived in Hartford for most of my life, and I’ve grown to appreciate the cultural diversity.”

This Is My Hartford: Kate Baumann

"Working here has been completely eye-opening in terms of learning about what everyone’s doing to support the region from individuals and small businesses to larger companies. I think that’s really cool. It’s a story that hasn’t been told enough and should be told because it’s important. It’s truly a good day each day in our region and I hope I can be part of the microphone to share this message," said MetroHartford Alliance Chief Investor Relations Officer Kate Baumann.
