We are honored that these fellowships are administered from our center. Thank you to the fellowships staff and all of our fellows who have increased diversity and excellence in foreign service over the decades!
Monthly Highlights: Powerful Women & DCPS

Celebrating Black, Female Leadership in Colombia
On February 7th, The Bunche Center was pleased to welcome Francia Márquez, the first Black, female presidential candidate in Colombian history and Mabel Torres, the first Minister of Science, Technology & Innovation of Colombia, to Howard University! They shared stories of their paths to leadership and how they have navigated racism, discrimination, & misogyny to thrive! It is not lost on them how important it is for little Black girls and boys in Colombia (and elsewhere) to see them running for president of Colombia or serving as the first Minister of Science, Technology & Innovation. This event was part of our HU/COL Avanza initiative, which seeks to increase engagement across Howard University's campus with Colombia.
Informing the Next Generation at DCPS
Last week, our Bunche Brigade visited Theodore Roosevelt High School to speak with students in the Global Service & Diplomacy Academy. Howard University students shared how they are leveraging their studies to pursue international careers. They also answered questions about what it’s like being a college student! Afterwards, we were treated to Cameroonian and Sierra Leonian jollof rice from their Culinary Arts program as part of their jollof rice competition. We look forward to continuing our relationship with these scholars and this unique program! Click here to sign up for the Bunche Brigade!
Celebrating Black History Month: Here & Now
History is being made right now. The Bunche Center is honored to help guide students seeking deeper scholarship and engagement on global issues. Whether they studied abroad, joined our Bunche Brigade, participated in our fellowships, or worked in our office, they are the definition of global citizens and servant leaders. Continue to craft your legacy and make your mark on Black history.
