Read-a-thon 5th Grade Play!

Many Burroughs 5th graders took the stage last week to act out the 2022 Read-a-thon theme book, The Girl Who Thought In Pictures: The Story of Dr. Temple Grandin by Julia Finley Mosca. Please enjoy the show at the link here. Great job to all of the actors!

Many fifth graders also worked on the set and costumes, painting props, cow backdrops, and costume cow shirts. Thank you to all of the 5th grade parents and Washburn High School volunteers who helped at the play rehearsals and painting workshops. Thank you also to Ella Williams from Morningside Theatre Company for directing our show.

Second Sleepunder is this Friday!

The Burroughs PTA is happy to welcome registered students to the Second Sleepunder this Friday at Burroughs. Check-in is from 5:45 p.m. to 6 p.m. and all students must be picked up at 9 p.m. Students are encouraged to wear pajamas and bring a sleeping bag to the event.

All of the spots for the second Sleepunder have been claimed. If you think you registered but did not receive a confirmation email, please reach out to the Burroughs PTA.

Both Sleepunders were made possible by the generosity of parent volunteers. So “Thank You!” We hope to bring back this popular event next school year.

Read-a-thon Playground Fund-a-need Donations and Closing Ceremony!

Did our Burroughs community read 1,000,000 minutes in February? We'll find out at the Closing Ceremony this Friday! Prize distribution for all students will also be on Friday.

The Read-a-thon is a fundraiser for the Burroughs PTA. This year, all Read-a-thon fundraising will go towards the Playground Fund-a-Need for updating the Burroughs playground. Adaptive equipment will be installed to make the playground more accessible for all students at Burroughs. The PTA hopes to raise at least $50,000 through the Read-a-thon so construction can get underway in 2023.

Donations will be accepted online through Give MN here. You can also donate with cash or checks made out to Burroughs PTA. Please return cash or checks to the Burroughs office or your child's teacher. Ongoing donations will be accepted at any time.

Burroughs PTA thanks you for your continued support of our school community!

Burroughs PTA Meeting on Tuesday, March 21

The next PTA meeting will be Tuesday, March 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium. The meeting will include a presentation by PTA Treasurer Matt Gardner about the budget. As always, you can attend this meeting in-person or by using this Google LINK.

SEW Wellness Moments Return

As we introduced in January, the Social Emotional Wellness Committee has partnered with Canvas Health and our School-Based Therapist, Beth Hopkins, to provide three Wellness Moments for students to engage in throughout this school year.  These moments are aligning with the SEW themes for the year: Restore, Play and Connect.

The next SEW Wellness Moments Kit for Students was sent home in student backpacks last Friday, March 10, and included a slip of paper to be signed by a caregiver and returned to a bucket in the front office prior to morning announcements this Friday, March 17. Names will be drawn for a participation prize during morning announcements; participation is completely optional. This month, our Wellness Moment focuses on the theme of PLAY and emphasizes the importance of playing, laughing, and spending time together with our loved ones. Students were sent home with a deck of cards and instructions for a couple different games to play with caregivers. Families may also play another game of their choice!

Our second Wellness Friday for Staff event of the school year also took place last Friday! This event also focused on our theme of “Play.” We were excited to welcome a special guest, Cathy Molinett from local CM’s Fitness and Dance Studio, to lead the staff in playing together! As usual, this event included delicious breakfast snacks and a chance to connect with each other.

If you would like to learn more about the SEW Committee or join us, please contact Maggie Skrypek. All are welcome and we would love to have you!
