Burroughs Fall Harvest Party

The Burroughs Harvest Party on Thursday, November 17, from 5 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. is almost here.

Celebrate the season with gym games, crafts, a movie, pizza, AND support our community through a partnership with Twin Cities non-profit, The Food Group.  The Food Group works towards food justice and equity in our region through hunger relief, affordable groceries, and land access for farming.

This year, we will be raising money and food for The Food Group AND the Burroughs PTA as part of our fall fundraising effort. Families can donate to Burroughs and The Food Group by using THIS LINK (scroll down to see The Food Group button). Our goal is to raise $10,000, so start giving today!

At the Harvest Party, families will also have the opportunity to learn more about food insecurity in our community and how they can help support access to nutritious food for everyone.

IMPORTANT! We need parents to help make this event happen. Please click HERE to sign-up to help. We promise it will be easy and fun.

Food Drive for The Food Group Runs November 8-22!

Burroughs is hosting a food & cash drive to support food insecure families across our community through a partnership with The Food Group.

The food drive runs until November 22. Families can bring non-perishable donations to the Burroughs lobby anytime and put them in the bins.

More about the current need in our community:

Inflation is at a 40-year high. Food prices have climbed 11.4% in the past 12 months. Rising food prices are a significant burden for many families with kids, seniors living on fixed incomes, and adults living paycheck to paycheck. Visits to local food shelves are on the rise as people in our community struggle to make ends meet and put food on their table.

Learn more through this Short Video about The Food Group.

Evereve Fundraiser

On Wednesday, November 30, shop Evereve at 50th and France Ave in Edina and Evereve will give back 15% of sales to our school. Please see the flyer for more details.

New Information from the SEW Committee at Burroughs

Erin Walsh with Spark & Stitch Institute–a great local resource for parents and educators that “translates research in the fields of child and adolescent development, digital media and youth thriving"has recently written a great blog entry on why forecasting emotional turbulence can help kids build the skills to handle it. Check out the blog HERE.

Also, mark your calendars! Our next meeting is Tuesday, December 6 at 7:30 p.m. via Zoom. If you would like to learn more about the SEW Committee or join us, please contact Maggie Skrypek. All are welcome and we would love to have you!

BRAVO is Back--Volunteers Still Needed in Several Classrooms!

After a break during the pandemic years, we are excited to bring back the BRAVO music appreciation program to our students! We have volunteers for many of our classrooms, but still need them for the following teachers:

  • Buchholz (1st grade)
  • Kilibarda (2nd grade)
  • Moen (2nd grade)
  • Debrey (3rd grade)
  • Kroening (3rd grade)
  • Wilkinson (3rd grade)
  • Hulsey (5th grade)
  • Walvatne (5th grade)

The volunteers for the following classes are looking for partners (this means you’re only responsible for three lessons throughout the school year):

  • Beilinski (Kindergarten)
  • Fischer (1st grade)
  • May (1st grade)

Share your love of music and get involved in your child’s classroom by volunteering for BRAVO! Attend two training sessions in-person or virtually (one in late fall; one in winter) and present six fun and engaging lessons. All presentation materials are provided and no music experience is necessary

If you’re considering volunteering but are short on time, partner up with another parent to split the lessons.

Email Alyssa Northrop to learn more or volunteer for the BRAVO program. Thank you!

Seeking Sponsors for the 2023 Read-a-Thon

Planning for the 2023 Burroughs Read-a-Thon is underway!  The Read-a-Thon is an annual reading event in the month of February. We are currently seeking sponsors and donations to help with the prizes given to students and to help run some of the fun events that happen during the month.

We would love it if your organization would help support this event. We are seeking:

  • Monetary donations to fund Read-a-Thon events and prizes
  • Gift cards to local businesses
  • Donations of larger prizes to raffle off to students

Last year we had a corporate sponsor who donated money to Achieve Minneapolis in honor of our readers. We would be interested in working with one or more corporate sponsor(s) with a similar community donation this year.

If you would like to receive more information about our needs and benefits for being a sponsor, please reach out HERE.
