Volunteers Still Needed for BRAVO

We are excited to bring back the BRAVO music appreciation program to our students! We have volunteers for many of our classrooms, but still need them for the following teachers:

  • Moen (2nd grade)
  • Debrey (3rd grade)
  • Kroening (3rd grade)
  • Wilkinson (3rd grade)
  • Hulsey (5th grade)

Volunteers for the following classes are looking for partners (this means you’re only responsible for three lessons throughout the school year):

  • Beilinski (Kindergarten)

Share your love of music and get involved in your child’s classroom by volunteering for BRAVO! Attend two training sessions in-person or virtually (one in late fall; one in winter) and present six fun and engaging lessons. All presentation materials are provided and no music experience is necessary.

Email Alyssa Northrop to learn more or volunteer.

A resource from the Social and Emotional Wellness (SEW) Committee

Tilt Parenting with Debbie Reber provides a wealth of support, strategies, community and resources for parents and caregivers raising neurodivergent kids or who Debbie refers to as “differently wired” kids. Check out her website and podcasts for information on learning disabilities and differences, ADHD, gifted, twice-exceptional, autism, sensory-processing challenges, anxiety, and more.

Mark your calendars - our next meeting is Tuesday, Dec 6 at 8 p.m. (Note time change) via Zoom. Please contact Maggie Skrypek for the meeting link. All are welcome and we would love to have you!

Sponsors & volunteers needed for the Read-a-Thon

The Read-a-Thon begins February 1! We are currently seeking sponsors and individual donations to fund the prizes students earn by reading all month long. The planning committee could also use some volunteers to help run the fun special events we offer throughout the month.

We would love it if your organization or business would support this event. We are seeking:

  • Monetary donations to fund Read-a-Thon events and prizes
  • Gift cards to local businesses
  • Donations of larger prizes to raffle off to students

Last year a corporate sponsor donated to Achieve Minneapolis in honor of our readers. We are interested in partnering with one or more corporate sponsor(s) for a similar community donation this year.

If you would like to learn more about the benefits for being a sponsor, please contact our team.

Meet the Burroughs Staff

Pete Hill, Physical Education

Mr. Hill grew up in Bloomington, MN where he attended Jefferson High School. He earned a Bachelors degree from Minnesota State University and a Masters degree from the University of Minnesota. He has been teaching for 32 years, and 30 of them have been at Burroughs. Some of his favorite things about Burroughs are the go-getter staff, students and their families. He believes that Burroughs is a wonderful environment.

Pete is married to Lisa who is also a teacher. They have two adult children, Austin who works in finance and Madeline who is a teacher. In his free time, Pete enjoys spending time with family and friends while walking, biking, inline skating, skiing, or snowshoeing. He also likes soft water activities like kayaking, canoeing and power boating, hard water activities like ice fishing and ice skating, relaxing while listening to music, and cooking. His motto comes from the philosopher Plato: “You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation."
