Conversation: Families for Equity & Justice

Are you interested in helping to re-imagine and re-invigorate the Burroughs Families for Equity and Justice? Join us for a conversation on Friday, October 27 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Lynnhurst Community Center lounge. Together, we'll envision the future of FEJ and plan our activities for the next year. Contact Kelsey Starrs with your questions.

Social Emotional Wellness: Talking About Violence & Suffering

As we continue to grieve and process the violence and human suffering occurring in Israel and Palestine, we want to acknowledge that words are inadequate for this kind of trauma. Yet as parents and caregivers, we are called to be a steady source of information and comfort to our children during times of crisis. With that in mind, we want to offer a couple of resources, as recommended by the Spark and Stitch Institute. We are holding all families everywhere in our hearts.

Join us Nov 6th for a Playground Expansion Ribbon Cutting

Our Burroughs community raised over $50,000 to support new, accessible equipment that enhances the playground experience for students with special needs. As you may have seen, the equipment is installed and looks awesome! Join us on the playground for donuts and coffee on Monday, November 6 at 8:30 a.m. to hear from our Special Education teachers about the value of accessibility at Burroughs. All are welcome!

Mark Your Calendars for Our Fall Harvest Party

Our Fall Harvest Party will be on Thursday, November 16th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. We're planning a fun time focused on giving back. Families can participate in service projects, learn about local nonprofits and make crafts together. Food will be served! Watch for more information coming soon as well as opportunities to volunteer or donate supplies for our services projects.

Meet a Burroughs Volunteer: Abby Carlen

Abby, along with her husband Bjorn, started their Burroughs community journey three years ago. They have two children: Posy, currently a 3rd grader at Burroughs, and Fritz, eagerly awaiting Bobcat status (Fall, 2025). They also have Rooney, their larger-than-life sheepadoodle puppy.

Abby joined the PTA core team this year and looks forward to working behind-the-scenes to identify creative ways to support the teachers, families and students. Her favorite thing about Burroughs is the heartwarming sense of community.

She hails from Hudson, WI and has been in content marketing for 15+ years. From running the lakes and overseeing outdoor pizza night to watching the kids Nordic ski and play soccer, Abby finds solace in the great outdoors.
