State Breast Cancer Advocacy Day 2025 Update

Registration will be closing soon for State Breast Cancer Advocacy Day on January 23, 2025.

If you plan to join us at the General Assembly in Richmond, please register soon! More information about the schedule and a link to the registration can be found here: VBCF 2025 State Advocacy Day

Top Legislative Priority for State Advocacy Day: HB1828

Our top legislative priority for 2025 will again be a bill to eliminate out-of-pocket costs (co-pays, deductibles, co-insurance) for diagnostic and supplemental breast imaging.

You may recall that in 2024, our advocacy focused on this same legislation, (HB230), and the bill was sent to the Health Insurance Reform Commission (HIRC) for review. We are thrilled to report that in December, the HIRC recommended HB230 in its current form! This is great news because it allows the legislation to be considered in the 2025 General Assembly Session (just with a new bill number). Delegate Shelly Simonds (70th) is the bill patron for HB1828 and we are grateful for her continued leadership on this issue. Also new for 2025, we will have a Senate bill patron, Senator Tara Durant (27th).

We anticipate adding other priorities to our list before Advocacy Day including legislation to protect patients from medical debt. The General Assembly began today, but is in recess until Monday due to the ongoing water issues in Richmond.

Share your Story

Even if you cannot join us in Richmond for Advocacy Day, you can help our efforts by sharing your experiences with us. Have you received a large bill for your follow-up breast imaging? Did you postpone or skip your follow-up due to cost concerns? Please consider sharing your story with us. Our goal is to show Virginia legislators the real impact on patients of the often unexpected and expensive costs of additional breast imaging. Please use this form to provide whatever details you are comfortable with sharing. *We will not share your personal information or story without your consent.
