Progress on Opportunity Zones in Ellensburg

The Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce’s office of Economic Advancement attended a forum on the Opportunity Zone Program. It was hosted by Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, WA State Department of Commerce, and the National Development Council in Wenatchee on Friday, September 28th.

We had the opportunity to learn about the investment process, share our views on Ellensburg’s designated Opportunity Zones and discussed the type of investment we felt would benefit the community.

Quarterly performance reports

The statewide and individual Workforce Development Areas (WDA) WIOA quarterly performance reports (QPR) are now available. You can also access these reports by clicking on the "WIOA - QPRs" quick link under the Reports and Research section on the navigation column from the main labor market information website .

These are the official results from the Department of Labor, summarizing the WorkSource system in both a single quarter and a rolling four quarter period.

The reports contain the following information for WIOA Youth, Adults, Dislocated Workers and Wagner-Peyser.

These reports have been updated through program year 2017 fourth quarter (April - June, 2018).
Support local entrepreneurs with an Enterprise Challenge sponsorship

The annual Enterprise Challenge, hosted by the Kittitas County Chamber and the Yakima County Development Association, is now accepting sponsorships . There are a variety of packages to support the business competition, from $200 to $10,000. Get exposure for your business, make connections with emerging entrepreneurs, and support a growing local economy. If you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity, please email Laura Bobovski, Director of Economic Development, or call 509-925-2002.

The Enterprise Challenge is a business plan competition for new companies in Yakima and Kittitas Counties.
Service dogs and the business world

The Chamber's most recent Lunch & Learn covered dogs in business - as in, a business owner's rights and a dog handler's rights. There was also discussion on therapy and emotional support dogs, as well as the rise of "fake" service dogs. The Lunch & Learn presentation and video will be posted to the Chamber's website soon. In the meantime, check out this flyer from the Washington State Attorney General (also available in Spanish ), which covers the basics.
Open House for downtown parking study

The City of Ellensburg is hosting a downtown parking study open house on October 16th from 4:30 - 6:00 pm in the Elks Grand Ballroom. It will begin with a short presentation on the study and the data gathered, and then attendees will be invited to provide input at various stations throughout the ballroom. Attendees do not need to stay for the entire open house to share input.
