Recycling Facility Reopens
On April 8, Republic Services celebrated opening the “Next Gen” Recycling Facility and Learning Center in Plano. The long-awaited reopening comes after the recycling facility burned in December 2016.
The 77,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility serves more than 510,000 residents and businesses across the DFW Metroplex, including Plano and neighboring cities. Republic Services Vice President of Recycling and Sustainability Pete Keller said, “We are pleased to partner with the City of Plano to assist in education that ensures only empty, clean and dry recyclables enter their recycling containers.”

Materials sort in milliseconds with optical sorters, next-generation anti-wrap fiber screens and other innovative technologies to process tons of recyclable materials daily. The Plano facility features a 5,000-square-foot interactive Learning Center to educate consumers through first-hand views of the recycling process from an observation deck.

E-Waste Recycling Fits Like a Glove
The Hope Center , host to over 40 dynamic Christian ministries, has held an onsite electronics recycling (E-waste) event semiannually for the past 3 years.

Partnering with Green Glove IT Recycling, they held an Earth Day E-waste collection. The event netted over a ton of materials comprised of monitors, hard drives, cell phone s and small appliances. Their 3-year collaboration with Green Glove has resulted in 7,387 pounds (3.69 tons) of E-waste diverted from the landfill.

The Hope Center became Green Business Certified in 2016. They also participate in single-stream recycling, utilize an energy management system, provide bike racks and purchase green power.
