Polishing the script for "What Was Really Going On At Those Nevada Divorce Ranches? Fact and Fiction" for Writers' Wednesday, May 8, at the Nevada Historical Society in Reno.
Authors Peggy Wynne Borgman and I will take you into our writers' world and share our creative process and how the memoir The Divorce Seekers provided the inspiration for Peggy's divorce ranch novel The Better Half.
In her Acknowledgements, she writes, "I owe much of the inspiration for this book to Sandra McGee, who with her late husband William “Bill” McGee, wrote the seminal history of the Nevada Divorce Ranches, The Divorce Seekers....Sandra is a tireless researcher with an encyclopedic knowledge of this era."
Peggy's written one heckuva good novel set on a divorce ranch in 1952. In fact, I was so impressed I asked her to write "Once Upon a Time in Reno", the Introduction to the new Divorce Seekers.
There's a lot of buzz going 'round these days about Nevada divorce ranches and I have a hunch Peggy and I may attract a full house. The 90-minute event - including a half-hour wine and cheese reception with a book signing - will wrap up with a Q&A with the audience.
Profits from the sale of Peggy's novel will be donated to the National Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition. Profits from my book will go to my travel fund for this year's writers' conferences...and a vintage Western hat from the 1940s like the dudines wore on their dude or divorce ranch vacations.
