Who will be reopening the ByTowne???

"I’m pleased to announce that Andy Willick & Daniel Demois will be taking over the cinema. These two have experience, enthusiasm, and I’m beyond excited to see them carry on the ByTowne story."
- Bruce
Who Are Daniel & Andy?

"We spent much of our youth in Toronto’s art houses and repertory cinemas. Watching everything from Sunset Boulevard to Eraserhead, from Army of Shadows to In The Mood For Love, we developed a strong appreciation for viewing exciting and innovative films with an audience. Participating in that tradition and sharing those same experiences with others means a great deal to us.

We have owned and operated Toronto’s Fox Theatre since 2007, and Kitchener’s Apollo Cinema since 2014. We also work as programming consultants with other Ontario independent cinemas including Kingston’s Screening Room."

What Are Their Plans?

"We share Bruce’s affection for international cinema, documentaries, and independent films, and we expect to continue programming in that vein. We do plan to make some additions to the offerings available to you at The ByTowne.
There’s more information to come, but in addition to developing a subscription/unlimited viewing membership, we are also working on launching virtual cinema options for remote viewing of select titles, and plan to obtain an AGCO license for those who like to enjoy a glass of wine while taking in a film."

When is the Cinema Reopening?

"We cannot set a specific date at the moment, but if the Ontario reopening plan goes as scheduled, we expect to open the doors in early Fall."

"Thanks to Bruce and All of You!"

"Bruce has truly built something extraordinary, and we are excited to get involved with this cultural landmark, that has such rich history. The ByTowne is critical not just to the Ottawa film scene, but also Canada's as a whole. There aren’t many venues that can produce the same level of enthusiasm for modern art films like this one, and the massive amount of support these titles receive is a great credit to your taste as the ByTowne community.

We are looking forward to seeing you at the theatre, and watching some films together!”
