March 2026

From The Co-Presidents of The Press Club of Cleveland

Spring is a season of fresh ideas and renewed energy and it’s a great time to reconnect with The Press Club of Cleveland and look ahead to what we can accomplish together.

Our club has always existed because of the passion, commitment, talent and engagement of our members and we’d love to see more people get involved this season. If you’re interested in helping shape the future of the Press Club, please consider joining one of our committees. We are currently looking for members who would like to contribute to membership, marketing, programming or fundraising efforts. Our Membership Committee is also reaching out to journalism programs at local universities as part of an effort to renew the connection between students and the Press Club and introduce the next generation of journalists and communicators to our organization. Please let us know if you’d like to get involved!

We’re also putting out a special call for members with special skills like marketing and graphic design skills. From time to time, we need help creating promotional materials and digital graphics. If you’d be willing to lend your talents, we’d love to hear from you.

This is the time of year to showcase the great work happening across Ohio’s media community. We encourage members to submit entries for the Press Club’s Excellence in Journalism Awards. Information on submission guidelines and deadlines can be found below.

We hope to see many of you this week at our Trivia Night at EDWINS for a fun evening of friendly competition and connection with fellow members. You can sign up using the link below.

Finally, if you missed our recent virtual programs on Freedom of the Press and AI and Journalism, both conversations are available to watch at the links below this column.

Thank you for being part of The Press Club of Cleveland. We’re excited for the months ahead and look forward to seeing many of you soon.

Sincerely,

Denise Polverine & Kevin S. Adelstein

"The 6-3 split: How the Supreme Court is Reshaping the Federal Power"

Is the topic of a panel discussion at 7 p.m. on March 26 in the Dolan Science Center at John Carroll University, University Heights.

The panelists include Pete Williams, former NBC Correspondent and Journalist in Residence at JCU, and Sarah Isgur, an ABC News Contributor and author of a new book on the Supreme Court.

The event is free and open to the public.

Cliff Anthony, a member of the Press Club of Cleveland, has been named Community News Faculty Champion by Vermont University’s Center for Community News.

Anthony is among the 150 journalism faculty members being recognized nationally "for their efforts to start or expand university-led reporting programs in their region," according to a CCN news release.

“At the core of all of these university-led student reporting programs are innovative and entrepreneurial faculty committed to student success,” said CCN Director Richard Watts. “These programs are a win-win for everyone: students receive high-impact experiences, and communities benefit from more reliable news. This program is a chance to say thank you to the faculty who make it all possible.”

Each Faculty Champion receives a $1,000 grant, peer support and coaching throughout the year.

Anthony is a journalism faculty member at John Carroll News in University Heights. He was nominated by Brent Brossmann, Ph.D., chair of the Tim Russert Department of Communication at JCU.
