Dear Beloved St. Andrew’s Community,

CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU for an incredible Welcome Back Sunday! We had over 100 people join us in person for worship and brunch, and it was a joy to hear from so many about how important our parish community is to them. Thank you to the extraordinary volunteers who had a vision and provided leadership and enthusiasm for a truly wonderful Sunday!

This week offered an opportunity to connect with the clergy of the Diocese and to spend a few minutes with our incoming and retiring Bishops. Bishop Gates has a special place in his heart for St. Andrew’s, and was very generous as he talked about his admiration for this community. Incoming Bishop Whitworth was duly impressed when she heard that we are ramping up to mark our 300th year! We will definitely see her on our campus sometime in 2025, and I hope that there will be a warm and welcoming St. Andrew’s contingent at the Bishop’s consecration and seating. It is a mystical, reverent, deeply spiritual event and I highly recommend attending in person – if you can swing it!

This Sunday, I will be honored to bless the teachers among us, as schools are back in swing and students are (hopefully) getting themselves sorted into their new routines. If you poke your heads in our beautiful Parish Hall you may also notice that the young people have a claimed space up by the stage. They will gather there for Children’s Chapel on Sunday’s before joining us in Big Church during announcements. Extra credit goes to Joanne Bibeau for her help in sorting and smoothing that space out in advance of Sunday’s service!

I hope that you are finding a bit of extra indoor reading time this week during these early grey and gloomy Fall days!

God’s Peace,

Reverend Amy+

Bread or Wafers?

When was the last time St. Andrew’s engaged in any robust polling? Well, this is the week! I’m inviting all to weigh in about whether we should continue to use the home made bread at our communion table, or you would prefer the traditional wafers? Polls are open – age is no restriction. I’d love to honor the consensus for the remainder of our Ordinary Time! Type your one word answer to: RevAmy@standrewshanover.org OR you can submit your preference to office@standrewshanover.org.

Have you ever heard of the organization called echoing green? During the remainder of our Creation Care season I will highlight several of the remarkable opportunities that this vibrant organization offers. The most immediate opportunity is to become an echoing green fellow. Here is the description of what they seek in their incoming class of fellows:

Who we’re looking for . . . . Echoing Green supports bold leaders who see possibility in the face of the most existential challenges of our day. Together, we strive to build a world that has yet to exist: a future free from racism and its far-reaching consequences where all people can thrive.

This Fellowship is for people whose enterprises are at an early stage and who are experts on the challenge they’ve chosen to confront. We seek leaders who reflect the community they serve and bring deep knowledge of the issues into their work as they co-design solutions with and for their communities.

Echoing Green funded my startup organization called the Family Legacy Project, which changed my life and the lives of the people who received our services. I am a champion for this organization and would be happy to talk to anyone who is considering applying.

Reverend Amy+
