FROM OUR RECTOR

Dear All,

Thank you for your prayers and presence on Sunday. It was lovely to be home and with everyone – in person AND on-line (Hello Tennessee, Good morning Maryland. Hi OH-IO. Welcome all!) Together we reflected on being part of God’s Team, with a nod of gratitude for World Cup fever.....the gospel reminded us that everyone is invited, and all gifts for ministry can be used. I offered a quick prayer for discernment and engagement throughout your week: “Lord, help me notice where love is needed, and give me courage to show up.”

There is big news for our community that reflects one of our Siblings in Christ stepping forward and courageously offering love to a new worshipping community. Sean Glennon, our music director for the last 15 years has stepped forward to accept a call as Music Director for Quincy’s United First Parish Church, aka the Church of the Presidents. Please see more info and our reflection below.

Sean has been a wonderful colleague and leader for St. Andrew’s and has generously shared his institutional memory throughout my tenure. I am so excited for Sean and the additional family time that his local, prestigious gig will offer, and I’m committed to celebrating Sean’s legacy and graduation from St. Andrew’s. Please join me in thanking Sean for his investment of time and love in this very fortunate community. To send him a note: 27 Bellevue Rd, Quincy, MA 02171.

This is an incredibly full and spiritually nourishing week on Church street and beyond. This evening I am headed to the famed Strawberry Festival in Carlisle to offer presence for St. Andrew’s and the Boston Immigrant Justice Accompaniment Network (BIJAN). The festival is from 6-8, all are welcome at the First Religious Society, 23 School Street, Carlisle, MA 01741. At Noon on Friday we will gather for our second annual Juneteenth celebration. After church we will have refreshments and shared social time in the Parish Hall. On Saturday we will celebrate the lovely life of Dale DiIorio before heading to Hanover’s Pride celebration at 3pm. On Sunday we will consider the cost of discipleship and on Tuesday, all are invited to an on-line panel discussion in honor of World Refugee Day
(details and registration here:

I hope that you are finding ways to enjoy the changed pace of summer and may the beautiful weather this week offer inspiration for our prayers and spiritual nourishment.

God’s Peace,

JOINT MESSAGE FROM REV. AMY AND SEAN

Dear Beloved People of St. Andrew’s,

There is “a time for every purpose under heaven,” as Ecclesiastes reminds us, and today we write to share news that is both joyful and bittersweet for our parish family.

After nearly fifteen years of faithful ministry at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, our Music Director, Sean Glennon, has announced that he will conclude his service here in September as he accepts a new position as the inaugural Music Director at United First Parish Church in Quincy.

Sean shared this news first with the choir this weekend, after what was a particularly beautiful final Sunday of the choir season. In many ways, it reflected exactly what Sean has offered St. Andrew’s for nearly a decade and a half: excellence, collaboration, humor, reverence, generosity, and music that deepens our worship and binds us together as a community of faith.

In Sean’s own words:

“While I have thoroughly enjoyed — and will always treasure — my time at St. Andrew’s over the past 14 years, 11 months, and 4 days, the demands of my full-time career and family obligations have increased exponentially during this period, and simply put, something has got to give. I am not ready to put away my organ shoes, but at the same time, I need a position that is closer to home and provides more time off ‘baked’ into the job.”

Sean’s new role at United First Parish Church — the historic “Church of the Presidents” in Quincy Center — brings him closer to both his home and workplace and offers an exciting new chapter in a place deeply connected to his own roots and passions.

“As a life-long resident of Quincy, and Adams Family fanatic,” Sean wrote, “I am incredibly honored and deeply humbled to have been offered the first-ever Music Director position. It’s a big responsibility and I am understandably anxious, but also excited about a new chapter and a new challenge that fits better into my work/life balancing act.”

As your Priest-in-Charge, I join all of you in the bittersweet celebration of Sean’s “graduation” from St. Andrew’s. While we are sad to see this chapter conclude, I cannot imagine a more wonderful next position for him. Sean has served this parish with extraordinary dedication, and he leaves an incredibly high bar for whomever God calls to serve as our next music director.

I am deeply grateful not only for Sean’s musicianship and leadership, but also for his partnership in ministry over these past two years. He has approached this transition with tremendous care and professionalism, helping to ensure continuity in our worship life and supporting the parish every step of the way.

Together with the Vestry and choir leadership, we will soon embark on a wide-ranging search for Sean’s successor. We will review and update the position description, share it broadly throughout the Diocese and wider musical community, and engage in an inclusive discernment and interview process that invites participation from choir members, parish leadership, and the wider congregation.

In the meantime, substitute musicians are scheduled for the summer months, and we are grateful for the strong foundation Sean leaves behind.

We also look forward to celebrating Sean’s ministry and legacy in the months ahead. Information about opportunities for gratitude and farewell gatherings will be shared soon in The Call and during announcements.

Sean wrote to the choir this weekend:

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve you, and I hope it goes without saying that I am going to miss my dearly beloved St. Andrew’s community… You are all part of my family, and that will never change.”

And so, while this announcement naturally brings sadness and transition, it also offers us an opportunity for gratitude — gratitude for years of faithful ministry, for music that has lifted our hearts toward God, and for the relationships that endure long after roles and titles change.

Please hold Sean and Erin and their family Genevieve, Andrew in your prayers as they begin this next chapter, and please continue to pray for St. Andrew’s as we discern the future of our music ministry together.

God’s peace,

Amy+

LEARNING BRIDGE

Tuesdays at 1 pm – you have a date for Bridge!

Keith MacLeod is chairing the brand new St. Andrew’s Bridge Builders – a group of aspiring bridge players who have been gathering and learning the game together in the Parish Hall. New members and beginners welcome each week! Come join the fun, learning, companionship.

CHILDREN'S CHAPEL

We are grateful for our volunteers who have taught our young children and contributed to this year of nurturing and growth, of insight, of learning, of accomplishment, of creativity, of laughter, and of sense of community, for they have taught "the joy of the Lord is our strength."

As they head into the summer, we pray that our loving God keep them in his embrace so that they may rest and be restored and continue in the ongoing discovery of his Love.

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP

Shore to Shore met last Sunday and joyfully welcomed four new young people who are considering whether this youth group is for them. ONE teen joined us Sunday evening after bringing her mother to church Sunday Morning (YAY Eller! We also welcomed Aniyah, Egypt and Kayden). We watched Taylor Campanile’s Salutatorian speech (she debuts at 1hr 02 minute mark), got to know each other and ate GREAT pizza from Hanover House of Pizza.

The decision to postpone our inaugural trip to South Africa is still difficult, but the group assembled Sunday was enthusiastic about fundraising for our planned 2027 trip! These young people asked to continue Shore to Shore throughout the summer, which is extraordinary! Our next meeting is Sunday, July 12th at 5pm. Thank you for all the ways in which you support this growing group!

Spring cleaning discoveries . . . change in the couch cushions, at the bottom of the cup holder, under the magazine pile . . . bring your found coins to church and put them in the buckets in the narthex and parish hall! Your small change WILL support big transformation – invest in our High School Ministry!

Join the Serving at the Altar Ministry

We welcome new recruit, Keith MacLeod who will serve this coming Sunday. There is still room for you if you interested in the ministry of serving at the altar (crucifer, gospeler, torch bearer). If you are called to be one who carries the cross, prepares the table, bears light and the gospel into the sanctuary during services. We welcome your inquiry and interest! See Rev. Amy on Sunday. Remember: every act offered in love becomes holy!

INVITE JESUS OVER

St. Andrew's would like the congregation to invite Jesus into their lives and into their homes. Find him in the sanctuary and you get to bring him home with you. Share your stories and pictures of your time with Jesus with the office (office@standrewshanover.org) so we can share them with all.
