Summer Wave
Welcome to the first WAVE of summer. In this issue Tim Gieseke MD, CMD uses a parable to illustrate the frustrations of providing care in our facilities in "The Problem of the Good Samaritan". Next is a feature to highlight some of the many benefits of CALTCM membership. We hope you all take advantage of the educational and mentorship opportunities available to members. We also give a shout out of congratulations to CALTCM Member In The News Albert Lam who was interviewed for a Caring for the Ages article on "10 years of INTERACT: The Push for Better SNF Care".

The Problem of the Good Samaritan
by Timothy Gieseke MD, CMD
Parables were told to alert the reader to profound truths. This parable has been time tested as witnessed by our Good Samaritan laws and by its influence on medical ethics. This parable was told in response to the question, "and who is my neighbor". In this story, the neighbor is never clearly defined, but only as someone who was robbed, beaten, and left half-dead. His plight was deemed less important than the immediate agenda and safety of the first 2 highly respected persons who saw him from afar and passed on. Shockingly, a despised foreigner saw the need, provided emergent care, and then paid for acute and post-hospital care. Click here to read more.
