A Message from the Head of School:
Dear CES Families,
Today I have two important updates to share with you. The first, is that Christ Episcopal Church has announced its new rector, The Rev. Lisa Zaina. She comes to Christ Church from Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church in Atlanta, where she has served as Vicar since 2014. Prior to entering the ministry, Lisa spent 25 years living and working as an attorney with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. She will join Christ Church on March 1. As part of her interview process, I had the opportunity to take Lisa to lunch to talk about the church and school. I thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon together, and I am looking forward to working with her. I think that you will enjoy her, too. She is smart, funny and knowledgeable about church/school relations.
The second update is in regards to our uniform policy. Earlier this year a group of parents came to me asking for a change in the spring uniform options for the girls. As you know, we chose several options that the lower school and middle school girls tried this fall. Well, they were a great hit, and I was asked if those options could be made available throughout the year. After a brief discussion with the board, to ensure that we were not veering away from actions that reflect our mission and vision, the decision was to move CES to a "standardized dress" model and away from a "uniform" model for student attire. Basically, this means that the approved school clothing items may be worn throughout the year. There is only one uniform, and it is considered the formal uniform. The formal uniform can be worn anytime but is required for certain school occasions, as outlined in the Handbook.
The Handbook has been updated with the new language for defining the standardized dress and outlining the days when students are required to wear the formal uniform. As you review the Handbook, you will notice some additional changes, including a description of the Cardinal Character program and an update of the technology program. Please let your division head or me know if you have any questions about policies stated in the Handbook.
With love and gratitude,

UPDATE: 2019-2020 Financial Aid
Many returning families have submitted financial aid applications for 2019-2020 through our new TADS system. However, those applications cannot be considered without 2017 W-2's and federal tax returns, along with any 2018 W-2's and documents available, uploaded into the TADS system. If you haven't already, please upload them right away so the Financial Aid Committee can consider your application.
Applicant families
applying for tuition assistance should submit the financial aid application through the
TADS
system by
Friday, February 8, 2019
in order for both admission and financial aid notification to be provided on March 1, 2019 (the notification date set by AIMSMDDC, the school's accrediting organization, for its member schools).

CES Student Artwork Wins Big! Recently, CES art Teacher Mrs. Luisa Vargas submitted student artwork to a contest run by the YMM Art Education Research Institute and the YMM International Development Center. The theme of the contest was "Fantastic Link - Art Out of Waste." Students used recycled material and other items that would otherwise be thrown away to make works of art! In doing so, they learned the importance of recycling, reusing and reducing. Prize-winners for the YMM Award for Global Creative Arts 2018 for the USA schools have been selected. Congratulations to the winners from CES! Claire M. ('28) - Silver Prize Josie N. ('22) - Silver Prize Zachary S. ('22) - Silver Prize Ryan H. ('22) - Bronze Prize
Their artwork will be displayed at the YMM Award ceremony, and at the National Art Education Association (NAEA) Convention in Boston, MA

~ Alumni Spotlight ~
|
We were honored to have one of our former students, Henry O. come to speak in chapel last Friday! He spoke to our K-8th graders about St. Augustine, an early theologian who had a heavy influence on Western Christian beliefs.
Henry graduated from CES in 2017 and went on to attend St. John's College High School where he is currently a sophomore.
Thank you for coming back for a visit Henry!
