A Message from the Head of School:

Dear CES Families,

I am very glad that the elections and political ads are over. Now is the time to look forward and see how we can work together. In light of that, I would like to share with you a poem. Please enjoy.

The Crayon Box That Talked
Shane DeRolf

While walking in a toy store
the day before today
I overheard a crayon box
with many things to say.

"I don't like Red!" said Yellow,
and Green said, "Nor do I!
And no one here likes Orange,
but no one knows just why."

"We are a bunch of crayons
that doesn't get along,"
said Blue to all the others,
Something here is wrong!"

Well, I bought that box of crayons
and took it home with me,
and laid out all the colors
so the crayons could all see.

They watched me as I colored
with Red and Blue and Green,
and Black and White and Orange
and every color in between.

They watched as Green became the grass
and Blue became the sky.
The Yellow sun was shining bright
on White clouds drifting by.

Colors were changing as they touched
becoming something new.
They watched me as I colored,
they watched 'til I was through.

And when I'd finally finished
I began to walk away.
And as I did, the crayon box
had something more to say.

"I do like Red!" said Yellow,
and Green said, "So do I!
And, Blue, you were terrific
so high up in the sky!"

"We are a box of crayons,
each one of us unique.
But when we get together
the picture is complete."

As I look forward to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, I will be thankful for all the unique talents and gifts present in the faculty, staff, students and community of CES.

With love and gratitude,

Caroline Chapin, Ed. D.

Thank you!
The Hurricane Michael Relief effort  was INCREDIBLE! Thank you to our community for the enormous generosity!   At CES, we certainly do have
Minds to Learn,  Hearts to Love,
and  Hands to Serve.

Rise Against Hunger - 11/17/2018
Our annual Rise Against Hunger event will take place in the Parish Dining Room on Saturday, November 17th from 10:00 - 12:30pm.  Plan to arrive a little early to get registered and settled in for this great event!
Our Rise Against Hunger event has been a fantastic expression of outreach within our church each year.  We typically have about 60 people show up and package more than 15,000 meals in the two-hour period, and the group represents a great cross-section of church parishioners.
Rise Against Hunger is an international hunger relief organization that distributes food and life-changing aid to the world's most vulnerable, mobilizing the necessary resources to end hunger by 2030, and the meals we packed last year were sent to Madagascar.  We hope to see everyone there this year!
For more information, see the bulletin insert, or e-mail David Craig at
david@spacesaverVA.comA suggested donation to the Outreach general budget is: $50 per family, $25 per adult and $15 for youths 16 and older who participate on their own.

St. Francis Flock Pet Memorial Service - 11/18/2018
Mark your calendars for the Pet Memorial Service at 5:00pm on Sunday, November 18, 2018, in the Church. Please join us in celebrating the lives of our beloved pets who are no longer with us. It is a unique, moving, and tremendously healing way to honor and remember our animal companions, God's gift to us.

Please submit a .jpeg photo of your pet or pets - whether recently passed or long ago remembered - for inclusion in our slideshow during the service. Email your photo(s) with your pet's first/last name to Lori Nicely at  by November 4.  For more information contact Lori at 703-869-9572.
