Celebrating Calvary's Ministries:
Calvary Youth
Hello!

Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum is one of the places the Youth Group goes to Hike and Pray. I visit Spring Grove most days, where I work and pray and enjoy nature. Our youth group comes into my mind often, as I've known all of them since they were very young as their Godly Play teacher. We miss our field trips and group activities at church.

Our young people need our prayers. They miss being with each other since we've been meeting online since March 15, 2020. Teens need to be together as an integral part of their socio-psychological development. Social media is a construction and doesn't tell the whole story of a person's life, so it doesn't duplicate the interactions teens need. Despite that, we've built a space online for the youth of our church grades 7-12 to meet each week to read scripture, talk about our lives, practice antiracism, talk to God, listen to the spirit, and learn what it means to follow Jesus. One of the youth called Jesus radical after reading a chapter of Mark, and she's right! We're learning ways to share our faith and carry it with us through the week.

Last fall, we studied the book This Book Is Anti-Racist by Tiffany Jewell, and we shared our learnings with the congregation at an adult forum. The Youth Group learned a lot about themselves and each other as we shared painful and joyful memories and stories. You can look forward to the Youth Group sharing what they know with you again at upcoming coffee hours, and in other ways we have yet to dream.

Thank you for your support of Calvary's Youth! They appreciate knowing that they matter and have a voice here.

Peace,
Miriam
