From the Rector

Dear Calvary Parishioners,

It is hard to believe that the Feast of Thanksgiving is upon us in just under a week. Our celebrations will be smaller this coming holiday season. We will, out of love for one another, keep our distance from one another.

Advent, a season of waiting, hope, and increasing light in the darkness that begins on November 29, feels so welcome in what will without doubt be a very different season than ones we've know in the past.

I'd like to invite you to a few ways to prepare to observe Advent this year:

  1. Advent Book Study (via ZOOM). Rev. Olivia and I will lead a study of Jesuit priest and martyr Alfred Delp's inspiring, timely, and profound sermons and prison writings in the book Advent of the Heart. Let us know what day and time of the week works best for you if you would lie to take part in the study by clicking here and taking a survey sharing your interest.
  2. Advent & Christmas Table Prayers. Retired Bishop/ Calvary Parishioner Nedi Rivera has composed simple table prayers that you can make a centerpiece in your home this season. If you would like a set of table prayers delivered to your home, please e-mail me at allison@calvaryclifton.org or call the church office.
  3. Make an Advent Wreath- Pick up everything you need from the church to create a beautiful wreath to keep the days of Advent an`d increase the light that leads to the coming of Christ in your home (see the bottom of this e-mail or call the church office at 513-861-4437 to sign up).
  4. Advent Lessons and Carols - a special liturgical presentation by musicians of the Cincinnati Fusion Ensemble, this will be offered in addition to Sunday worship this year. Stay tuned for details.

It is in the darkest night that light shines the brightest. Won't you join the community of Calvary in observing what is sure to be a meaningful and hopeful Advent filled with the increase of the Light of Christ?

Blessings,
Allison+

Rector
