Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord

The Marian Mass will be at 8am this Saturday, August 5th.

Fr. Rex will give a special blessing to all students and teachers returning to school this year at each Mass this weekend. Additionally, all married couples celebrating a wedding anniversary in August are invited to stay after any service for a blessing in front of St. Joseph.

Adoration will begin at 10am on Monday to allow for CK School educators to begin their week with a Mass.

Our Senior Adult Luncheon is at 12 noon on Monday, August 7th. We'll play Singo (like Bingo, but with songs). Please let us know if you'll be coming at 242-4531 so we'll have enough fried chicken.

The Alzheimer's Support Group will meet Wednesday, August 9th at 5:30pm in the Garden Room.

Beginning next weekend, August 12th and 13th, we will offer childcare for the 5pm, 8am and 10am Masses. We will discontinue offering it at the 12:15pm Mass.

Feast of the Transfiguration

This weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration (August 6), which recalls and celebrates Jesus’ revelation of his divinity to three of his friends—Peter, James, and John—on a high point on Mount Tabor. According to the Gospel accounts, Jesus took the three disciples onto the mountain to pray. While they were praying, his appearance was changed by a brilliant white light that radiated from him and his clothing. Moses and Elijah, the greatest prophets of the Old Testament, appeared with Jesus, and a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.”

The account of the Transfiguration points backward to the Old Covenant (symbolized by the presence of Moses and Elijah) and the New Covenant, foreshadowed in the revelation of Jesus’ divine glory.

Sign Up to Bring Offertory Gifts to Altar in August

Parish families (or friends) are invited to volunteer to bring the offertory gifts to the altar during each Mass during August. Simply head to the church narthex (vestibule) during the collection and the ushers will be there to give you the gifts and line you up to follow the cross bearer back up the center aisle.

Volunteers are asked to please check in with the Ushers when you arrive for Mass so that they know you are there!

Archdiocesan Safe Environment Training Now Available

All Safe Environment certificates issued before August 1, 2023 have now expired. To volunteer with children or vulnerable adults, you must complete the new training course. This includes all school teachers, school office personnel, administration, parish employees, ministry leaders and volunteers who work with children and/or vulnerable adults.

New Women's Bible Study Starts September 5th

How do we talk about morality in a world that no longer believes in truth? When we’re bombarded with messages of “Be tolerant!” “Don’t judge!” and “Coexist!” many good people feel afraid to say anything is right or wrong anymore.

CK's Women with Purpose Bible Study will begin "Who Am I To Judge?: Responding to Relativism with Logic and Love" by Edward Sri on Tuesday, September 5th.

This book gives us an important key to responding to relativism effectively—a Catholic moral worldview. Learn how Catholic morality is all about love, how making a judgment is not judging a person’s soul, and how, in the words of Pope Francis, “relativism wounds people” and is “the spiritual poverty of our times.”

Catholics will have greater confidence in God’s moral law, greater clarity in how to explain it effectively to our secular friends, and greater compassion for those with whom we disagree. All ages are welcome, and childcare is available by reservation with your sign-up. Please register by August 25th.

Family Faith Formation Program Gears Up for September Start

All parish families who are not enrolled in Catholic school are invited to enroll in Family Faith Formation at Christ the King. In this program, children meet with their catechists every other Sunday from 11:20am - 12:10pm in the school classrooms and parents meet for class in the school cafeteria. Parents will be given instruction on the information they will present to their children at home on the "off weeks" when class does not meet.  

Catechism is provided for students in kindergarten through 5th grade. Childcare is available for younger siblings.

For students in the second grade, this class will also provide catechism for their sacraments.

Classes will begin September 17th and more information will be sent out to registered families prior to the first class.
