2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
Make Plans to Attend Candlemas on February 2nd...
February 2nd is the feast of the Presentation of the Lord Jesus in the Temple. It commemorates Simeon’s famous prophecy that Jesus would be a “light of revelation to the Gentiles.” It is also known as Candlemas since it is the day that candles are blessed for use throughout the Church year.

Please join us for a special evening on Wednesday, February 2:

  • Blessing of Candles at 6:30 in the Atrium
  • Candlelight Procession into the sanctuary
  • Holy Mass by Candlelight

Families are welcome and we encourage you to bring your candles for the year to be blessed, or make one with us (see story below)!
...and Join Us for a Pre-Candlemas Activity!
Want a warm and holy activity on a cold winter night?

Please join us to make your own prayer votive candle that will be blessed at Candlemas! All ages and abilities are invited to gather in the atrium at 5:30 to be led in this simple activity by catechist Laura Webb prior to proceeding to the candlelit Candlemas at 6:30. All supplies are provided. You can take your blessed candles with you to find a special place of prayer in your home afterwards.
Votive Candle Ministers Needed
We need Votive Candle ministers! Votive Candle ministers check the votive prayer candles on Tuesdays and Fridays of each week, replacing the extinguished candles with a fresh candle. Parents and grandparents, this is a wonderful way to spend time together and introduce ministerial responsibility to a child who has had First Communion but is not yet old enough to be trained as an altar server. Ministers will first come to the parish office to get the sacristy key to have access to candles.
What are Your Spiritual Gifts? Take Our New Inventory Quiz
God has graced us all with many special gifts called charisms to use for the benefit of others and His church. These gifts include things like evangelism, hospitality and musicianship. When we recognize our charisms, we're able to choose to serve in those areas where the Lord has gifted us, where we'll be most effective and where we'll feel most fulfilled. We encourage you to take a Spiritual Gifts Inventory to discover the areas in which God has gifted you and gain insight into the ways He may want to use you for the good of others.
New Hebrews Bible Study Begins February 9th
Embark on a guided tour of the “Holy of Holies” of biblical theology: Hebrews: The New and Eternal Covenant. This Bible study draws out the riches of this sublime book in a way that makes them easier to understand, drawing connections between the Old and New Testaments, the Liturgy, the Eucharist, the priesthood, and so much more. Most importantly, Hebrews will help Catholics appreciate the astounding generosity of God as they see the wonders he has given us in the Church.

This 8-week study begins February 9th. Class will meet Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm in the Formal Room. The cost is $30/study set.
Don't Forget these Parish Life Events!
