This weekend marks the first Sunday of Advent! We'll begin the season with a special Advent Penance Rite on Monday, November 29th at 6pm. Whether you’ve gone to confession recently or haven’t for many years, this is a great chance to prepare for the Lord (and we'll have at least 10 priests to choose from!).

Tips:

Take time to prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Click here for an Examination of Conscience.
Arrive a little early before the Penance Service and open your heart to conversion.
After confessing, stay and be present to the Lord. Be open to receive the Lord’s great mercy!

2021 Christ the King Advent Schedule

Adoration on Monday, November 29th will be dedicated to the landmark pro-life case, Dobbs vs Jackson Women’s Health.

Christ the King Day a Huge Success!

Nearly 500 parishioners joined us this past Sunday as we celebrated the Solemnity of Christ the King, the Feast Day that identifies our parish. Representatives from many organizations of the parish joined in the festivities before the 10am Mass, beginning with a Eucharistic Procession and an unveiling and blessing of our new statue of Christ the King. Pope Pius XI instituted this feast in 1925 to respond to growing nationalism and secularism. We celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King on the last Sunday of the liturgical year to remind the faithful that Christ reigns as king of the entire world forever, and it encourages Catholics to respond to this reality. Thank you to everyone who joined us in person or in spirit for this special day.

The Infancy Narratives

Parishioner Stephen Reel will present a four-part series about the birth and early life of Jesus according to Matthew and Luke. You'll hear the similarities and the differences between the two accounts and discover the continuing relevance of the stories today. Mr. Reel promises that you'll learn things about the Birth of Christ that you've never seen before in Scripture.

Advent by Candlelight

The deadline to register for Advent by Candlelight is Monday! Don't miss this special evening for all women of the parish. On Thursday, December 2 from 6:30-8pm we'll gather for Prayer, Praise and Practice with music, fellowship and a presentation by Sister Barbara Joseph from Sister BJ's Pantry. Attendees will also receive a reflection journal to keep during Advent. There is no cost to attend but we do need to know how many people to expect so we have enough appetizers and wine & cider.

Help Us Make Homemade

Christmas Cards for the Jail Ministry

The CK Jail Ministry will be delivering handmade Christmas cards to the inmates in the OKC jail, and the Parish Life office thought it would be fun to get together and help make them. Please join us next Friday, December 3 between 10am and noon for snacks and coffee and help us make cards. Please let Pam know (842-1483 or [email protected]) that you'll be coming.

If you can't join us but would like to do this project at home with your kids please remember to:

Use unlined 3x5 or 4x6 index cards
Use colored pencils or markers
Include words of encouragement, Bible verses, holiday greetings & colorful artwork
Sign them if you want but include first name only
Please do not use glitter or stickers
Drop finished cards in the box at the Parish Center

Your thoughtfulness means a lot to these people that are often forgotten at Christmas!

Don't miss our special Advent Presentation on December 9th! Luis Soto, Assistant Director of the Secretariat for Evangelization and Catechesis of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, will share the history, symbols, meanings, and messages the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe has left for us Catholics. This promises to be an amazing faith formation topic, with light refreshments beginning at 6:30pm followed by the presentation at 7pm.

Santa Claus is Coming to Breakfast Next Sunday!

The Knights of Columbus will host Breakfast with Santa in the Atrium next Sunday, December 5th following the 8am and 10am Masses. Bring a camera for photos. Donations accepted.

CK Giving Tree to Support Johnson Pre-K Center

Christ the King will host a Giving Tree in support of the Pre-K Center at Johnson, an OKCPS early childhood learning center within our parish area. We'll be collecting things like

Sidewalk Chalk
Copy Paper
Tissues
Outdoor Balls
Playground Toys
Hula Hoops

Unwrapped items may be left under the Advent tree in the foyer through December 14, and monetary gifts will be used to purchase items as well (checks may be made payable to Christ the King with "Giving Tree" in memo line). Thank you for helping support our neighbors!

Christ the King's Living Nativity will be at 5pm on Sunday, December 12 and all children ages four to eight are invited to participate in this fun tradition. Sign-up boxes will be on the Welcome Desk in the Mayfield Foyer from November 27th through December 5th. Children will be selected by a random drawing and costumes are provided.

Fr. Rex, Fr. K and Austin are looking forward to greeting you at the Rectory on Sunday from 4-6pm! If you'd like to bring a housewarming item, there is a registry at Target under "Father Rex Arnold" and "Father Prabhakar Kalivela."
