A Message from The Executive Director

Dear Friends,

As we step into a new season, I'm excited to share updates from our organization and highlight the meaningful work made possible by your continued support.

Learn more about the following updates below:

  • Spring Appeal: The summer program is an exciting time for our students and offers a mix of academic enrichment, creative exploration, and community-based field trips. Your generosity makes these opportunities possible, helping to fund engaging experiences and open doors to new discoveries that many of our students might not otherwise have.
  • Washington DC: Last month, I traveled to Washington, DC alongside fellow MAAPS leaders to advocate for special education in meetings with Members of Congress and officials from the US Department of Education.
  • Employee Spotlight: We deeply value every member of our team and are grateful for the dedication and passion they bring to serving our youth and families each day. I'm especially pleased to highlight one of our team members this month, Amy Tattrie.

None of this work happens in isolation. We are deeply grateful for our partners including community organizations, funders, and collaborators, who stand alongside us in advancing our mission. Your partnership strengthens our impact and helps us reach further than we could alone.

Thank you for being part of our community and for your ongoing support. Together, we are building brighter futures.

Laura Lajewski, Ph.D.

Executive Director

Community Providers of Adolescent Services (COMPASS)

Help us raise $10,000 for COMPASS School's 2026 Summer Enrichment Programming!

The COMPASS School provides summer enrichment programming to a portion of students enrolled during the regular school year term to provide ongoing support. Our structured schedule includes academic tutoring, outdoor education, weekly BBQ's with the culinary program, gardening and more!

With 100% of COMPASS students having an Individualized Education Program (IEP) in place, there is a worry that their emotional, behavioral, and academic gains will be lost when they leave for summer vacation due to the nature of their disabilities of varying degrees.

The Summer School program hosts approximately fifty K-12 students over the course of a 6-week period (Monday-Thursday). During each week, the students receive academic enrichment, clinical support and the opportunity to go on field trips to explore educational and social opportunities throughout Massachusetts.

Every donation makes a difference!

COMPASS Leadership Advocates in D.C.

COMPASS Executive Director Laura Lajewski, PhD joined fellow MAAPS leaders in D.C. last month to advocate for special education with Members of Congress and officials from the U.S. Department of Education to advance key legislative priorities such as protecting and fully funding the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), defending Medicaid funding for school-based services, raising concerns about the potential workforce impacts on H-1B visa fees and more.

Employee Spotlight

Amy Tattrie

Parent Partner

"COMPASS changed my life for the better... I was once a client of COMPASS with DCF involvement, and now I get to work for COMPASS and help families... I get to use my experience, strength, and hope to help my clients navigate any challenges they face."

We are grateful for the experience, compassion, and lived expertise Amy brings to COMPASS every day! Read more about Amy below:

What is your role at COMPASS?

Amy: My role is “Parent Partner.” I provide clients with support that focuses on their strengths. I assist them with personal and family goals, strengthen communication and relationships, and connect them with appropriate long‑term supports. I act as a liaison between clients, DCF, and other service providers to ensure families’ needs are met. I specialize in substance use recovery and help clients navigate treatment and build relapse‑prevention plans that encourage long‑term sobriety.

What originally brought you to COMPASS?

Amy: When I had my third child, DCF got involved due to my struggles with substance abuse. In July 2014, I was referred to COMPASS and became a client. COMPASS was the first provider I had that gave me HOPE. COMPASS helped me grow as an individual and as a caretaker, and I became the parent I knew I could be. In December 2014, I got custody of my daughter back, and COMPASS was a big part of helping me get through that time. Throughout the years, I stayed in contact with my COMPASS worker and always told her I wanted to work for COMPASS one day.

What’s one moment or accomplishment you’re especially proud of?

Amy: I put together a substance abuse presentation and have been able to share it with staff to help educate them on how to better assist clients who have past or present struggles with addiction. But I am most proud of the work I do every day.

What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?

Amy: Something people might be surprised to know about me is that I have had my cosmetology license since 2004, and I also love doing nails.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Amy: Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family. As a family, we love spending time outside, rain or shine. We also have family movie nights every week.

Do you have a favorite quote, motto, or piece of advice that inspires you?

Amy: I have a few favorite quotes, such as "Live, Laugh, Love," and, “If you believe in yourself, anything is possible,” but my favorite is, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
