Thorobreds, on the day after yesterday’s historic occasion, let’s remember who we are.
Like the new barrier-breaking vice president of the United States, you are a proud student at one of the country’s HBCUs. Like the new vice president, you may be a member of one of the Divine 9. Like the new vice president, you are poised to break barriers and achieve all that you can dream. Let’s celebrate this new semester by remembering who we are and striving for who we can be.
But, as Dr. Stashia Emanuel said earlier this week, dreams come with a cost. How much are you willing to pay and how much is this dream worth to you? This semester, and the last few semesters, part of the cost is keeping yourself and your community safe.
Over 400,000 people have died due to COVID-19. We must continue to protect ourselves and each other by wearing a mask, washing your hands often, cleaning high-touch work and residential surfaces frequently and practicing social distancing.
Also, it is of utmost importance that everyone in our campus community completes the mandatory training entitled Your Campus and COVID-19: The Road Back. For those of you here in the fall, you remember that this training was a foundation for a healthy and successful semester. If we wish to remain healthy, have in-person classes or activities of any kind, everyone must complete the training.
You must complete the training for the spring semester, even if you completed it in the fall.
