District 1-F 2021 Convention Report
The 2021 District 1-F Convention came into play with its own set of rules due to COVID-19 regulations.

In-person participation was very limited; convention rules and election rules needed to be rewritten. Online participation (via Zoom) was the way to o for this two-day convention.

As convention chair, I am pleased to announce that we had 60 District 1-F Lions, 9 guests, and 1 Leo registered, and that we made a profit of $5,186.68.

A thank you goes out to the Lions and guests who took the time to participate in the convention, the election of the 2021-2022 officers, the Trivia Night event, and, most of all, our Silent Auction.

Without the hard work of Lions Laurie Robbins, Dennis Spaeth, and his fine-feathered friends, we would not have been able to earn $4,070, including donations.

There were many Lions in our district who stepped up and donated funds that helped to offset the cost of trophies, the gift for our international guest and the donation to Lions Clubs International. Thank you all.

Thank you, too, to the Convention Committee members and Lions for thinking outside of the box and all their hard work. You made this convention the success it was.

Thank you to PCC Mike Baumer for providing the technical operation for Zoom; PDG Kathleen Marusich for revising the Rules of Election, and for working with North Region Zone Chair Bill Stanley to use Election Runner; Lion Carol Shepardson for her beautiful Necrology Service and prayers; Lion Katie Dolan Baumer for all her proofreading and editing; PDG Sue Hastings for helping serve refreshments; and to Zone Chairs Chuck Lansing, Vince Leone, Terry Dooley and Tim Robbins.

Also, a heartfelt thank you to District 1-F Governor Tom Lippert, First Vice District 1-F Governor Ric Granroth, and Second Vice District 1-F Governor Chris Marks for their fantastic help and encouragement.

However, I would be remiss to not express my thanks and gratitude to my Convention Vice Chair Maggie Jabeck. She stepped up to serve any way she could.

As Lions presented with a challenge, our convention success proves we can find ways to overcome obstacles and continue to serve others while having fun.

Thank you all for your help, participation, and for just being a LION.

The family of Lion James Rockwell, who died Nov. 29, 2020, has started a scholarship fund in his honor: the Grayslake Lions Club Scholarship Fund, which the Lions will be renaming in his honor. The first scholarship was issued in May to a young man that’s going into the law enforcement field. If anybody is interested in contributing to this fund, you can send contributions to the Grayslake Lions Club Scholarship Fund, PO Box 201, Grayslake, IL 60030.

Dear D1F Lions, Lionesses, LEOs, & CUBs,

It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as your Lions of Illinois Trustee for the past several two-year terms. I have learned so much more about the Lions of Illinois and the services which our organization performs on a day-to-day basis, and how much it affects the lives of our MD-1 Club Members as well as all the various communities throughout our entire state of Illinois. I shall continue to cherish those memories of service as I seek other avenues in which to perform other acts of dedicated endeavors.
