Professor Shawn Fields's latest book, The New Public Safety: Police Reform and the Lurking Threat to Civil Liberties, was published on August 26 by the University of California Press. On September 25, Professor Fields welcomed Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law Professor Jamelia Morgan and Florida State University College of Law Professor Nadia Banteka to discuss his book as part of California Western's celebration of the release. 

On the Road

Professor Nancy Marcus is presenting, "Promoting Rigor in Writing Through a Multi-Tiered Approach to Memo and Brief Draft Feedback” at the 2025 Legal Writing Institute Central States Conference in Chicago, Illinois, on September 27th.  


Professor James Cooper is co-organizing and moderating a panel on October 1st about AI regulation with University of São Paulo Professor Juliano Maranhão, Professor Kashyap Kompella of BITS India, and Christian Kunz, a Swiss lawyer, as part of the 4th annual International Meeting on Corporate Integrity and Global Legal Regulation, produced by Faculdades de Campinas, a leading university in Brazil. 


Professor Nancy Marcus will be the keynote speaker, presenting “Bisexuality and the Law,” at the 4th Annual International Bisexual+ Research Conference 2025 on October 5th.  


Professor Emily Behzadi Cárdenas will moderate, “International Tribunals and Cultural Heritage Destruction: War Crimes, Persecution, Genocide & Discrimination,” a panel at International Law Weekend 2025, hosted by the American Branch of the International Law Association.
