NCFRW - The Call to the Fall 2025 Meeting

October 2025

From the desk of Kay Wildt, NCFRW President

Catherine Herridge

Luncheon Keynote Speaker

Installation of New Officers

Catherine V. Herridge is an Emmy Award‐winning veteran investigative correspondent who covers national security and intelligence. Herridge was held in civil contempt by a US federal court for refusing to disclose her confidential sources for a series of national security reports in 2017.

As a senior investigative correspondent for CBS News from 2019-2024, Herridge’s reporting was a catalyst for legislative change affecting more than a million American veterans and civilians. The Investigative Unit’s Emmy‐nominated series “Decades of Exposure” is credited by activists and lawmakers with the passing of the Camp Lejeune Justice Act in August 2022. Part of the burn pit legislation known as the PACT ACT, the law is considered one of the largest expansions of VA healthcare and benefits for American veterans.

Herridge has reported from Afghanistan, Iraq, Qatar, Israel, Northern Ireland, Russia and the former Yugoslavia. Prior to joining CBS News, Herridge was the chief intelligence correspondent for FOX News Channel (FNC), and a TV and radio correspondent for ABC News in London. In 2019, the Congressional Medal of Honor Society awarded Herridge with its annual Tex McCrary Award for excellence in journalism.

To cover stories she could not while working for a news organization, Herridge went independent and began "Catherine Herridge Reports."

A graduate of Harvard and Columbia's School of Journalism, where she founded a national security reporting scholarship, Herridge comes from a military family and lives in Washington, D.C., with her husband, a West Point graduate, and their two boys.

Gordon Chang

Keynote Dinner Speaker

Honorary Lifetime Member Dinner

China and the U.S.: War or Peace?

Gordon Chang, author and noted expert on China's government and economy, is the keynote speaker at the NCFRW dinner in Greensboro. The last time Mr. Chang was with us, a Chinese spy balloon was circuiting the USA. Let's hope this time China is less bellicose.

Chang is a frequent guest on Fox News and other major news programs, such as CBS Eye On the World with John Batchelor, where he is a regular co-host. He has given briefings at the National Intelligence Council, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Pentagon, and the State Department. Mr. Chang has appeared before the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission.

Mr. Chang lived and worked in China and Hong Kong for almost two decades, most recently in Shanghai, as Counsel to the American law firm Paul Weiss and earlier in Hong Kong as Partner in the international law firm Baker & McKenzie.

His writings on China and North Korea have appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The National Interest, The American Conservative, Commentary, National Review, Barron's, and The Daily Beast. He is a columnist at Newsweek and writes regularly for The Hill.

HIs previous books are "Nuclear Showdown: North Korea Takes On the World" and "The Coming Collapse of China," both from Random House, as well as booklets - China Is Going to War, The Great U.S.-China Tech War, and Losing South Korea, booklets released by Encounter Books.

Mr. Chang's newest book in 2024, "Plan Red: China's Project to Destroy America," will be for sale.

As always, Mr. Chang's update on China will be thought-provoking.
