THE CALL'S COMING FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE | |

Yesterday the US hit its debt limit. Republicans in the House are demanding brutal cuts to social spending programs before they’ll consider raising it. The demands of their Chaos Caucus are far from clear, but will undoubtedly include brutal slashing of Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare. And to accomplish this historic cruelty, they are willing to hold hostage the global economy.
If you’re still unsure who these Republicans represent, look at the first bill the new House has taken up: it cuts IRS funding meant to crack down on hyper-wealthy tax cheats. And today they are pushing a #RepublicanTaxBomb in the form of a 30% national sales tax which would crush the middle class.
It’s not a new idea – in fact, it’s one of the oldest there is. For the entire span of history, small minorities of greedy people have sought to control society in order to increase their wealth and power, at the expense of the vast majority. Throughout history, they have mainly succeeded.
But democracy is the antidote. So we fight for an America that upends that history:
where our voices count – where the people we elect defend our rights – where all of us get a fair shot at success.
Republicans’ shriveled vision offers us a democracy in name only, a country where your vote doesn’t matter, where you can have exactly as much freedom as you can buy. And what you can buy is determined by what area code you’re born into. Their philosophy is the opposite of the American dream.
We reject this nightmare. We devote ourselves to waking people up. Because people won’t use their power if they don’t know they have it. But when they do, look what we get done together!
We elect Biden and Harris to the White House, we get Rev. Warnock his first full term in the Senate, we welcome Maxwell Alejandro Frost to the House. We pass protections for same sex marriage, rebuild our infrastructure, and pass the biggest climate investment in history.
We make dreams real.

THURSDAY, MARCH 16: REGISTER DEMOCRATS SUMMIT!
Our mantra is simple yet powerful: “Register Democrats. Save the World.” It sure got us charged up for the last few election cycles (many big wins… whoo hoo!) but now we want to supercharge it.
That’s why Field Team 6 is hosting the first-ever Register Democrats Summit on March 16, 2023.
Think of it like Netroots Nation or the America Votes Summit, but dedicated specifically to exploring the world of partisan voter registration.
What are we rolling out as part of this day-long Zoom extravaganza?

In 2011, the Wisconsin GOP gerrymandered control of the state legislature with the most corrupt maps ever seen... and the Republican majority state Supreme Court let them. But now one crucial seat is opening up on the bench and if we flip it to a progressive... we could change everything.
That's why, in the run-up to this key April 4th election, we're partnering with our friends at The Union on a massive voter registration and GOTV effort. We need all hands on deck, so feel free to help out with any of these events:

NEW VOTER DRIVE COACH:
JO ANN BOLLEN
If you haven’t met Jo Ann Bollen yet, you should. She is Field Team 6’s new Voter Drive Coach! That means in addition to leading the in-person voter drive trainings (on Zoom) for California once a month, she will now also be available to help any volunteer in any state set up their own in-person voter drive!
Jo says, “What I love about helping volunteers set up voter registration drives is that whether you're just going out with your bestie and a couple of clipboards, or you have a dozen excited volunteers, Field Team 6 techniques work for anyone, anywhere!"
She speaks from experience, having led countless drives in numerous CA districts. “Nothing communicates our passion for defending democracy, justice, and equality more than one-on-one personal interactions. In-person conversations will always be more compelling than a phone call, a text, or a postcard. We must try to galvanize all of those young people who can save the world!”
