Amina's Comeback
“ After losing my mom I felt entirely alone. But when I came to Calvary all that changed. I found a community – a sisterhood.”

Before coming to Calvary Women's Services, Amina moved back to Washington, DC from Miami to care for her mother who had just been diagnosed with breast cancer.

When Amina's mother passed away, Amina was stuck with thousands in medical bills and overdue mortgage payments. After her house was foreclosed, Amina had nowhere to live and was forced to stay at emergency shelters. Luckily, her pastor told her about Calvary.

Honoring Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton
We are thrilled to present Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton with our 2019 Hope Award. Throughout her career, Congresswoman Wexton has worked tirelessly to end both domestic violence and addiction, two primary contributors of homelessness. She has also vigorously championed women’s causes.

Volunteer Spotlight: Rachel Grossman
As a longtime DC resident, Rachel Grossman had often heard about Calvary through her involvement with various community arts programs such as those at Arena Stage. When the opportunity finally arose to lead one of our classes as a volunteer instructor, she jumped at the chance.

United Way's Do More 24
Help us kick off our expansion this summer and empower even more women to end their homelessness for good.

On May 22nd, Calvary will participate in Do More 24, a 24-hour online fundraising campaign hosted by United Way of the National Capital Area that benefits nonprofits in the DMV. We are looking for volunteers to promote the fundraiser online with their networks. For additional information on how to get started, contact David Lothamer.
Remembering Cedric Asiavugwa
During the spring of 2018, Cedric Asiavugwa taught our Negotiation Skills class along with his professor, Melissa Reinberg, as part of Calvary's education programs. Cedric was equally insightful and compassionate, and always entered the room with a warm, encompassing smile.

Cedric passed away on the morning of Sunday, March 10, as he was traveling home to Kenya during Georgetown Law’s spring break. He was one of 157 passengers on Ethiopian Airlines Flight ET302 that crashed near Addis Ababa. He will be missed.
