In This Together, Virtual 5k
Register today for Calvary's first ever virtual 5k!
Inspiration for this event came from the women living at Calvary. Throughout the pandemic, residents and staff have been taking daily walks together to get fresh air, exercise and to re-center themselves. One of the women told us, “I look forward to the walks every day. They give me peace and allow me to leave my worries behind for an hour. The walks are a blessing during this time.”

During a time that is so difficult and unpredictable, walking together has helped the women we serve continue to heal and lean on one another for support and strength. Now, it’s time for us to take action to show the women living at Calvary that we are In This Together today, tomorrow, and every day going forward. You can read more about why we are choosing to run/walk/bike here.

The registration fee for the event is $25, but you don’t have to stop there! You also have the opportunity to become a Calvary Fundraiser to help us raise more money. You can fundraise as an individual, as a part of a team, or you can create your own team.
Every person who registers will receive a Calvary-branded mask.

A Space to Breathe
Many months ago volunteers from The Mission Continues spent a day at one of our program sites and helped renovate and refresh our space. One of the highlights for the residents and staff was the new garden area, complete with new picnic tables, a bench, refurbished planters, and a new basketball hoop.

The garden is now in full bloom and has been a much needed space for relaxation and exercise during the pandemic. Women enjoy spending time gardening, playing basketball, and having a space to chat with one another while enjoying fresh air.

We are so grateful for all of the work that the volunteers from The Mission Continues put in to create a space that allows the women at Calvary to feel safe and relaxed during this time.

You can see more photos from the day of service below!
URGENT NEEDS: Bagged Lunches & Amazon Wish List
Takeout
We are in need of volunteers to drop off bagged lunches beginning in September. The lunches should be grab & go style (sandwiches, fruit, chips, etc.) so women can take their lunches and enjoy while physically distancing.

If you are interested, please contact Stacia Frederick at [email protected] to schedule a drop off date.
We have also updated our Urgent Needs Wishlist on Amazon. You can find the updated list HERE.
Volunteer Spotlight: Felicia Fort & Amazon
Even though volunteers can't come into the building for their normal volunteer shifts, they are still finding ways to stay involved!

Thanks to our former LEAP volunteer, Felicia Fort, the Culture and Community Engagement Team from Amazon Delivery Station DLD7 in Lantham, MD stopped by and delivered boxes of toiletries and masks for the women at Calvary.

We are so grateful to Felicia for finding a new way to stay connected and make a difference in our community. Thank you Felicia and the team at the Amazon Delivery Station in Lantham.
ICYMI: Stuck Inside
In case you missed it, check our video to hear from women living at Calvary about what it means to them to have a safe place to be stuck inside during this pandemic.
As DC continues to slowly reopen, we must remain diligent and committed to keeping women safe at Calvary, while helping them reach their goals. We will continue to support women in their search for employment and housing, and work with them as they end their homelessness for good.
