Mia's Story

"Am I going to have to buy a coffee pot? What about pots and pans? I'm from the South and I like to cook."

This was Mia on the day she moved from Calvary Women's Services into her own apartment.

"Then my case manager opened the cabinets to show me the pots and pans and coffee maker that were already there. I couldn't believe it. Calvary took care of everything."

A few years ago Mia was living with an abusive partner from another state. It got so bad she had to flee to Washington, DC in the middle of the night. Mia was forced to sleep outside on the streets, until she learned about Calvary.

Cocktails for Calvary - Fall Edition

Join us at Cocktails for Calvary on Thursday, September 19th at Marvin , a mainstay of DC’s eclectic bar scene located at the heart of the lively U Street Corridor. We’ll come together to highlight the accomplishments of women working to overcome their homelessness and celebrate the coming of fall.

Enjoy signature cocktails and a delicious fusion of classic American style hors d’oeuvres with a Belgian touch . This is a wonderful opportunity to invite friends, family, coworkers or networks to learn more about Calvary’s mission and the women we serve.

Volunteer Spotlight: Cheryl Williams

Cheryl Williams volunteers at our front desk on a weekly basis. A former nonprofit management professional and school teacher, she is now retired and enjoys the opportunity to fill her schedule with meaningful volunteer activities.

NMAAHC Tour with Baker Tilly

Women at Calvary had a marvelous time touring the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture and taking in as many of the exhibits as possible.

We are grateful to volunteers from our partners at Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP for organizing the trip and providing lunch in conjunction with their nationwide Baker Tilly Stewardship Day. Be sure to check out all the fun photos of the field trip .

Open House Event

Curious about Calvary? Join us on Good Hope Road for our Open House event on Friday, September 13th from 9 to 11 AM. Come see our programs firsthand, hear stories about the women we serve, and learn about all the ways you can get involved with Calvary.
