From the Director

Economic development remains a top priority at the federal, state and local levels, and we are working diligently to position Calvert County for continued success. A recent BEACON study highlights the impact of our efforts, revealing that every dollar invested in economic development generates $8.81 in state and local tax revenue.

We are making progress on the Calvert County Economic Development Strategic Plan update in partnership with the Sage Policy Group. Renowned economist Anirban Basu recently led a series of stakeholder focus groups to gather valuable local insights that will shape the plan, which is set to be released this summer.

Additionally, we were pleased to host the Maryland Economic Development Association (MEDA) and PNC’s Southern Maryland Rural Regional Session, where discussions centered on workforce development opportunities and challenges. Panels covered a range of critical topics, including private sector perspectives on the future workforce, workforce success stories, Blueprint implementation and strategies for attracting young professionals to our region.

Tourism remains a vital economic driver for Calvert County. We encourage you to check out the 2025 Calvert County Visitors Guide and take advantage of the many opportunities to enjoy local attractions while supporting our businesses.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to strengthen Calvert County’s economy and build a vibrant future.

Sincerely,

Julie Oberg, Director

Department of Economic Development

Calvert County, Maryland
